When i try to launch FO3, armada2.exe just hangs using about 5MB of RAM for about 40 seconds, then eventually terminates itself, for unknown reasons.
System Specs are;
Microsoft Windows Vista
2.7Ghz AMD Athlon x2 (dual core)
nVidia GeForce 8600GT, with 512Mb GFX RAM
2GB System RAM
The hard drive FO3 is installed on has 98GB free space, the Windows drive has 17GB of free space.

Any ideas?
So far i've tried;
using compatibility mode for XP SP2/3, that just made Armada2.exe use more RAM, but still hang..
Disabling desktop composition
Disabling visual themes in Windows
Disabled DEP (was already disabled prior to this)

Tried.

It should also be noted, Fleet Ops 2 did work on this very same system.

Tried running it in administrator mode?

Right click on the shortcut.

Right click on the shortcut.
The option to do that is not available. (greyed out)
My account is the admin account of this system, btw.

Well if thats true it should be available. My account is the main admin account, and i have UAC turnt off, but even I have the option to run something in admin mode (which usually fixes most issues with older software I have lying around)

I know what you're talking about. What you have to do is go into program files, go to Activision, click on fleetops, and go to the actual launcher, and set that one in compatibility mode with Windows 2000, and run it as an admin. THAT should work, but it might not.

Yes, there is a folder called /logs/ which is empty, /savegames/ also empty, and then FOData.xml (2kb)

Can't find the launcher? Unless you mean FleetOps.exe, in which case already tried.
My game is located at H:Program FilesFleet Ops. Does FO3 require to be in a direct where the original Armada 2 is installed?
Another thing i've heard of, some older games required to be installed on the same drive as Windows (C:) is this the case with FO3?

Well, this is the only account on this PC, and i own the computer, i'm the only one who uses it and i built it... so it should be..

EDIT: Enabled UAC, the option is now available, however doesn't help.

Install it into the default directory then if you can, might seem trivial but its one of the many Vista nuances.

try to delete the "c:usersyournameappdataroamingstar trek armada ii fleet operations" folder, then try to run it again and see if the issue persists

It would appear the H: drive was it's default, i've now installed it to the samke drive as Windows, same error.

backup your fleetopshook.dll and fleetopshook.map download and install the following file
http://fleetops.masters-lan.info/dev/fo ... olteon.exe
run fleet operations, wait and hopefully after about 30 seconds a bug report window should popup. if so please send the error report to me.

Installed, armada2.exe has now been quite happily hanging for now 2 hours. (Task manager says the .exe is still in existance..)
