Hello guys!

I am having a problem with the newest version of FO. I dont even know if this is supported, but i am having difficulty under Linux getting the newest version of FO to work. I recently got the email that the new version is out (3.1.0) and downloaded that and the patch (3.1.1). With the prev. version, I had to disable voices to get the prog. to load, but I was ok with that. With this version, I have tried everything, and no luck. It will load to the menu, allow me to set up a skirmish, and when I hit launch, it crashes immediately.

I can provide error logs or details if you ask for them and tell me where they are at. I have included a terminal dump in txt format, as well as exeptarmada2.txt

hrm, yes, the sound file problem under wine is known. i don't know why this crash occurs though. i haven't tested 3.1.1 yet with wine, but there weren't any changes that should affect wine compatibility further. this seems to be a crash in the graphics engine.

Hmmm, any ideas on tests I can run to find/fix the problem? Im pretty computer knowledgeable, just not with this prog...
Send me a list of things to do if you would like, and ill report back on what affect they had.

Hi guys,

New version, new error. Now it does not launch at all. I know you guys don't support Linux, but I cant afford a new pc running windows for my favorite game. Any help would be appreciated in helping me feed my addiction.

I have attempted to upload the crash dump and terminal error log, but the server tells me that the attachment directory is write protected or something along those lines

i understand your problem, in theory the wine developers should fix the problems with fleet operations, as everything should run as well as if it were under a real windows os :) but i know that won't happen anytime soon. i'll have a look at that but i can't promise anything, the priorities currently lie elsewhere. despite that i guess the sound problems do still exist.

I think it is actually  new problem since the update, as I cannot actually launch the game anymore. I could post logs of the problem, but the server is not letting me. Thanks for the help, even if it turns out to not be your problem or a problem you can fix. Ill also send a bug report to wine, never know, maybe they can fix it.

i'll have a look at it. i have plans working on the known audio problem first. it's no use if we solve the startup error when the game crashes because of the audio anyway.

Hey guys, hate to beat dead horses, but I have used the latest patch, and still cannot launch the game. If there has been any progress towards fixing this, or any ideas on what to try, id love that. i gave up on this game a while ago, but still love it.  :crybaby:

THANKS!

i have been working on the sound engine that gives most problems for wine recently. after that at some point i'll have a look at what causes the wine startup issues.

Hey all,

Time for my once-per-release plead for help  :ermm:

I tried the newest release, out today, looks great, but still will not play. This is the error that I now get :

wine: Unhandled page fault on read access to 0x00000000 at address 0x0000:0x13141cf7 (thread 0058), starting debugger...

Does this immediately on start, repeats till I kill the process.

Thanks for the help. I'm looking forward to one day seeing all the work since the 3.1 release

I just installed 3.1.4 in wine, the result was that the FO desktop shortcut just spawns over 100 Armada 2 programs (a few every second) that each take up just under 6 Megabytes of memory, then all of them stop at once.

lol schizophrenic crashing. instead of 1 fail you get 100 fails.

600 mb of ram gets munched lol.

try to run it without the new loader. delete armada2.exe and rename armada2.ldl to armada2.exe

Star Trek Armada II: Fleet Operations - Armada2.exe technical side note (no-cd patches, virus alerts)

Works, altho it has a strange short bust of high-pitched audio right as it starts.
