Gotta say Boggz, that was one of the most clear, thoughtful, and amusing posts that I have read on this forum in a LONG time
. And yup indeed, I do get frustrated every here and there (
) - the important thing to remember is that even if things are going downhill because of less than stellar gameplay (on any player's part), it is a always a game, and there are REAL people playing with you. Be civil (damnit), be patient, and help them, and let them help you
. Even in defeat (usually especially in defeat) you can learn something and it is best to keep a big 'ol grin on your face while you go to Sto'vo'kor!
P.S. I shall be dining with the famous gladiator, Gluteus Maximus this evening.

Communication can help, but "thick skin" would be better. Most of the time (if you're playing correct), you cannot take the time to chat in-game....because the moment you do, hordes of Klingons decloak on your expansion, and obliterate it before you can end your sentence.
One must have VERY thick skin to step into the ring, and attempt to go toe-to-toe, with any of the seasoned FO veterans haunting the Tunngle lobby. It's one thing to step into the ring with people of equivalent skill, but you'll never grow in skill by avoiding tougher players. Nor will novice or casual players grow in skill, unless they get pwned by a full-fledged assault on their skills.
I'd rather lose many times to a Great player (which I've done BTW), than to pick and choose my opponents, and pound my chest saying I've beat lots of people or I'm a better player than such-n-such.
food for thought...

@ Funnystuff
Don't worry, I can get 7 of 9 to hook up with you if that is what you really want.... I'm sure everyone wants a girl.

I disagree - it's ok by my book if you aren't terribly skilled. The most important thing for me is if my allies pay attention to the minimap, and pay attention to the chat

2 mediocre players can win against 2 "skilled" players if they communicate better/more.

I dont think so. The skilled players will know what to do even without communicationg much. If they have good scouting they will know when a joint attack is prepared...not always but its likely.

Meh. The point is that excellent communication can make up ENORMOUSLY for shortage of skill.
Perhaps 2 vets vs. 2 noobs is a bit of a stretch, but you get the point .... right?

Absolutely. Even a skilled opponent will have difficulty facing 2x the assets at once after all, especially if there are several counters in that combined fleet. Then again, skilled opponents aren't very skilled if they don't communicate
