lol come to think of it, i have to admit... i havent done this yet with this patch... but I don't think very much as changed. im not sure how much of a problem the teutoburg will be. and im actually completely not sure what centaur or rigel will change with all this.
im gonna play it again with shroud and fog off. make sure this is still easily doable.. and by easily.. i mean compared to with shroud and fog on... even though its constant work.
in fact, it becomes so hard just stayin on the offensive, but remembering to make sure your shipyards are always fully queued up and always spamming. if you have a ship stop producing vorchas for ten minutes... i find it sucks. just knowing i could have had three extra vorcha or whatever. and remembering to survery resources and do research while your constantly attacking and watching the AI.. haha. i suppose its not really all that easy... but yeah
actually i have sneaking suspicion this might be much easier to do because of the patch.ive noticed that the AI warpins both teutoburg AND descent. thats eight slots... so it cant be warping in too many ships then. but i dunno. just easily it could making it tens times worse! three descents and three teutoburgs flying around... lol I might be toast. ill work at it next couple days. see what its like

Thanks for the long write up. I've been playing against the merciless borg and noticed they will attack in massive groups of assims, spheres, scubes, and dodes. The key is to draw them in and take out their ships that are out of the group and be very micro and macro extensive. So far I can beat one merciless but its fairly hard! I find BortaS very good late game if you can make it late game with the turret spam they can do and the ion storm.

Played a few games, a couple as Klingon, one as Federation both vs 3 Feds. Sadly, the teutoburg is a HUGE problem.
(This is welcomed news, I will go back to 2 merciless AI and I think it will be a nice match)
It can torpedo any expansion from this new strategic range. Turrets wall is no longer nearly as effective. Not only that, but the AI has no problem warping it in right inside your territory behind your front expansions and taking out miners, and turrets at your expansion. As well as attacking your home base. So even though each expansion I have has a two turrets straddling the moon, what does the teutoburg care?. Also, in this game, I just can't cover and defend that much space very well. I'm not that effective at micro.
After the game as Feds, I looked up each Merciless AI's Teutoburg class, and the damage is as follows:
Orange: Warped in a total of three Teutoburgs.
1st: I killed it before it did anything
2nd: Defeated 1 storage dock, 1 mandril class, and 1 Torpedo Platform
3rd: Deafeated 1 phaser platform, 1 torpedo platform, and 1 defiant
Yellow: Warped in a total of 6!! Teutoburgs.
I destroyed four before they did anything.
5th: 1 phaser platform.
6th: 7 peregrine fighters...not the Avalon
Red: Warped in a total of 6!!!! Teutoburgs
Destroyed three before they did anything.
4th: 1 Torpedo platform
5th: 1 Avalon
6th: 1 Torpedo Platform
So of the seven that were able to get kills, 5 targeted a platform. Which is bad for this. Also went for one of my expansion refineries... erg. I think I lost more freighters from the destroyer ships that accompanied he teuto in its attacks though.
Feds have definitely improved. I'm not gonna give up just yet trying to get the 3 mercy victory though. But I'm back to the drawing board with shroud and fog off to see if it can be done this way first.
I guess I'll still even have to do 2 merciless... but based on the games I played, it took over an hour and half before they finally launched there final massive waves that just stomped me. I ended it before I was destroyed so I could get more accurate stats of what they had done up to that point in the game.
----
A few other things, the AI wont expand really beyond its original expansions. If you kill an expansion early, it seems highly unlikely the AI returns to that expansion, it just focuses on the other ones.
This leads to early suicide runs. In the beginning, of the four/five expansions they get. Try to wipe at least two out. Everything. Miners, yards, refineries. Especially the one with five moons. The noble sacrifice. It will extend the game quite a bit. I watched the whole game, they never went back to expansions I demolished. Do it quickly, they go for starbases.. in one game I got there just as a constructor was building a starbase, 10 seconds to finishing it! If I had just been 20 seconds sooner to attack that location, man would have been so much different I had a 30 fleet ship take heavy losses. Even if you just attack with eight ships in the beginning to kill early expansions. (At the expense of losing all eight ships, get the stations killed)
But yeah, I dunno.
As for borg, on most maps I play they are 20 / 20 ish. with a center of some kind. Usually defeat them around the time they have a few spheres out. But yes, one Mercy is enough for borg. You get a good game in.

Edit for Klingon gameplay: (I played both as feds and Klingons against AI and maybe noticed some things. lost everything so far against 3 ai though)
Two Klingon turrets are better than any two fed turrets in my opinion after playing the games. Can hit multiple targets, good damage still really decent defense. Even though it can be easier to get fed platforms up, and then upgrade them as desired... no where close to getting moneys worth. Torpedo is costing more than 1000 di. phaser like 600. HWP fair 848 / 333 or so.
Feds to benefit from resources though... although, I think the way my warpins was going, I was hurting in resources in different ways.
Easier to spam units as Klingons. If you go up to Eraudi yard... really becomes quite expensive and to long to build those ships. Spamming from just two eraudi yards two defiants or two sovereigns is all quite expensive. Lot easier to get larger fleet as Klingons. Although the Fed fleet I had of 30 or so was really quite powerful at early-mid game in crushing fleets. So unless you just built using monsoons, intrepids, e2s and avalon spam. Maybe I will try this next time. More yards to spam the smaller monsoon, intrepid, and akira units. With some e2 and avalon from an eraudi yard. (i can only speak with so much experience, im sure many have more well thought out ways of playing feds with certain ship combinations than me, my game was just shear mix of everything. i think i could have done better in these choices)
Klingons get cloak... this is obvious, but can really appreciate their ability to cloak pass fleets and uncloak ontop of a dilithium blow it up, then go for ships and stuff. Also, on their way to escape, can cloak and then repair. Feds when sent to repair will often split up the fleet because of such a great difference in various ship speed. So you can lose quite a bit during a retreat. You have to do it manually all times, keeping the fleet together. So its still kinda fixable. But as Klingons, when you decide your fleet has had enough, can cloak, and AI never goes detect.
Although I said Kbeajq spam.... I think I might have done more in the game I won. At some point you get huge di surplus, and I might have spontaneously opted to get three kvort yards and spam those as well. I rarely use susa, so I doubt those were in the mix. So if you are looking for more reinforcements during mid game, get kvorts, kbeajqs, and vorchas spamming. (I once had 3000 3000, and another time 5000 5000, but you just get so caught up in other things you lose sight, and other times you look up and you have zero resources or 12.. and your like crap, how long as that been like that with my huge surpluses in resources) So, either go starbase build at one expansion, or build more expansions at field yard to spam more ships.
The feds use of warpins is good. But you cant use it like in a 1v1 mercy game. If you send them straight to a mining station to destroy some miners or whathave you, if theyre alone or far away, they get swarmed by three Ais and it almost assuredly will cost you resources for losses.
Ultimately, it will take several attempts in quick succession maybe a few days to get used to it (although realistically could be more like a week or so time allowing, or more). I started with 1 merciless 1 hard, improved, 2 merciless, improved improved went to three. You just catch things from all the games you lose. Every game you lose happens for a reason. Assuming it is possible, and you could have done things differently, always ways to improve.
I just think about judging it by how long the game goes. If you are playing a game, and are beat in less then half hour... then things look pretty gloomy. Last an hour... you must have been doing something right at some point to last that long. An hour and half and must be stuff you can change for what you did in a whole hour and a half. Games two hours plus.... obviously so much room to improve and change. do something different at any number of points in the game. (and during each of these, are you generally more even or winning/losing often I find in games lasting a while it seem even... your just missing an edge) My goal is always to try and win something by game four. Sadly, even when I don't win by then... I'm not convinced it cant be done, but it gets tedious as they are long games being devoted to this sort of thing, and its such a long time to just change a small or larger part of your strat.
And, it all depends on your style. Depending what ships you like to use and such. Brels in my opinion are worthless in this game setup.. so if your really used or like using them, you have to either find a way to make them work, or get comfortable with other ship types. I think Luspet can be useful... but don't know if I want to always use them. Vorchas, kbeajq, qawduj, and probably kvort later on in the game, is like a scalpel. Klingons just have great attack power and hull strength for even when they lose their shields. Introducing the Vorcha haha.
Might get in a couple 2 merciless AI games though, get my confidence back up lol. And figure out how to do something about those teutoburgs. Strategic range... gah!

k, I don't think its possible anymore.
Just played a game with double resourcesm shroud off, fog off... did really good actually. Destroyed one AI almost completely. I think it had three stations left at another of the AI's bases. A turret and some science stations it relocated.
Demolished 10 expansions.
The AI is perhaps better, or the teutoburg may be a bigger problem now.
Killed 2061 ships. Lost 320. Killed 90 buildings. Lost 45.
AI red warped in 14 teutoburgs and 14 Descents.Orange warped in 13 of each as well. Yellow warped in 4, and 3.. They took out several HWP's, a few of my yard extensions teutos' did
I gathered 226864 Dilithium, and 114949 Tritanium.
Game was a little over 2 hours.
It came down to the starbases. Destroyed 5 expansions before they got starbases. The rest had at least one, but some get two, and the bases have 3. Taking out an entire AI base just costs too many ships. And you sometimes have to commit all your fleets to make sure it can get done quickly.
AI Yellow was destroyed, and orange only had its main base left, but shared one expansion with Red.
Red had its main base, one expansion, and shared expansion with orange.
You could win it though. If you cheated right after you defeated AI Yellow. If you replenished 10000 dilithium, 10000 tritanium, and got those resources, with double resources, and shroud off fog off. I could have done that, but I didn't want to cheat to that degree just yet.
But you've already got everything so stacked against you... in the sense of a fair game just crushing the AI, it may no longer be doable after 3.2.0. But if you just want an exciting game where you face off with 3 AI, and get one freebe cheat to resource up on... it would definitely be a fun game. It's practically constant action.
lol, and holy, those fleets they send at you... the mini map is a nightmare when you see their attacks coming. streams of little red and orange dots. fun fun fun

Might be worth a shot. I generally don't tech up that high though. I don't generally build Imperial Yards, only up to ordinance depot. No Imperial research or anything.
For a couple reasons. One, I want all my ships to have cloak, and mainly for imperial yard I would want Neghvar. But to make that a good fighting unit, thats tritanium for weapon overload and large scale cloak over 3000 worth of it. 2ndly, if I were to just go to Bortas, its two upgrades... and you would need to also build imperial yard and research. Ai never makes it pretty to use ion storm. They come in long lines, not short clumps. so I would damage a few, and then 8 more would come, and I think I would just use the bortas always. I have to keep my ships out of there, because they arent immune, only bortas. But maybe I'm just not experienced enough with it.
Ultimately though, I just like to spam the good cloaking units. Get Vorchas, kvort kbeajq qawduj spam. They are cheap, make a few fleets and checkmate. lol just not against 3 AI Merciless. Although I did beat 2 AI Merciless and 1 Ai Hard federation as Klingons the other day. Or well was going to do, but then the game kinda crashed. But I had the win.
Also, I would rather spend the money on turret wall and starbase power. I just meant its slightly intimidating to see all those ships knowing what they're out to do. But spending the money on the starbases and turrets, its actually quite durable. Except for the teutoburg, which is quite an annoyance.
I've actually start building more starbases than usual. Turrets tank your supplies too quickly. I was thinking it over a couple days ago, and just realized overall, to defend all my expansions and my yard sale production I'm at least putting up 25 turrets thats 48 supplies each 1200 supplies. That's without my 3 or so fleets of thirty ships. Eventually, when it gets to the point where in the game resources cost 1900/1900, turrets are just no longer an option. Although, I will probably now start making the shift earlier. I can build a starbase for 2000/1000 and no supplies. so leave the supplies for my ships. lol I'll give my expansions each two starbases... instead of two turrets, which wil save me 96 supplies. Although, realistically, you have to start with the turrets in early game. certainly cant affor the starbases. But later in the game you can.
You wouldnt happen to know how much damage the bortas do to starbases would you (fed starbase)? I might look into using them to crush starbases. Well, especially at the main bases. By the time I get to crushing those, they have three starbases there. Some right beside each other. Sneak in those bortas... even if they die, its good damage, then sweep in my fleets and kaboom.

unsure of how much damage the BortaS do to a starbase but they do a ton of damage to ships...........if they detonate on a bunch of fed ships, most likely it could wipe them all out and you know how the computer likes to put 20-30 in a large group..........
When it goes late game, I like to use them to take care of mining expansions as I can detonate the cloud, kill, and then cloak away.

hmm. by the way, 2 Mercies and 1 Hard Federation is doable with shroud and fog off, Finished a game earlier today. Put AI hard on far left, and AI Mercy 1 right above you, and the other in the middle.
I only spammed from 3 yards to start. Built one Kvort and one kbeajq extension. One battle yard. And then later in the game one more battle yard. With this beat the one AI. To finish more quickly against the other two I built three imperial yards and Neghvar spam.
Without having to spam from six yards, I had more resources to build up more starbases. It was practically a starbase spam too. lol at one point I had so many resources at my main expansion I decommissioned two refineries and battle yard, and had five starbases with a turret wall around them. It was so fantastically powerful. Just crushed fleet after fleet after fleet. A lot less turrets. One initially at each expansion. Then I built starbases.
