Weapon overload hits for me pretty consistantly.  That's what does it.  Tough little ship, sure, but even cubes notice when that special hits.

They'll probably also notice the reduced weaponsfire from the Negh'Var even more.

Even if it'll kill an unshielded Defiant level 5 and below in a single hit, you still have to down the shields first and hope you don't get a shot of the bad side of the 80% accuracy.

Hugh? Turrets can't move, so all they have to do is keep expanding, while keeping you trapped inside your base. And most players won't send 2 bombers and an S-2 alone on a suicide mission to attack your turret like the stupid Ai. Any good dominion player would have way more than enough ships to keep that defiant at bay and stop you from making any more. Game over ;)

Yeah...more likely to see 2 bombers, 1 s-2, and 6 bugs at once.  And that's a little thin considering what the Dominion can pump out quickly.

Any good Dominion player would be harassing the enemy's mining ships before a turret platform was even finished being built.  :shifty:

It was against the AI.  I win every time against the AI.  Almost every time!  I figured out where the attacks were coming from and I quickly built up my defenses.  The AI never got past them and I now have complete control over the sector.

Klin/Rom mixed tech yard > Defiant.

build time of the yard itself, then research time for the mixed tech is your wait time.

There ya go.

Unless you don't mind your miners being cooked, it works.  Until you run out of resources.  Bottom line, it's a lost cause.

lol defiant as your first ship will definitely stay an ai only strat.

in real games against humans, in a team game, you MIGHT, maybe be able to get one early-ish. definitely not as your first ship. and even then its risky.

Aye, only way it works is if you do the mixed tech yard, but dont FOCUS on it, and build other ships.

Back when I did more MP than I do now, I found it was generaly best to let whichever fed was situated the greatest distance from the enemies build them if they had a mixed tech yard avalible.

If a combined rush hit the guy, it could screw things up pretty bad, but if you could get a defiant rush setup, and especily if the defiant player was good/quick at leveling them up, they could end up dishing out some major pain really fast. Really funny when it's pulled off, rush in with a supporting group from allies, and take out a starbase that cant even reutrn fire.

For some reason the people loosing the starbase get really mad if you should all caps in system chat 'I cast magic missle' each time you disable the starbases weapons.

Interesting.  The base can't return fire!?  How would that be possible?  Whenever a vessel gets near a starbase, the starbase is usually the first unit to start firing.

In a 2 vs 2 game i played recently i was able to build mostly sabers and warpins till i got tech level 2 up and running then i built akiras and researched tech level 3 and built phalanxs. If someone wanted too they could switch that to defiants.
