Tokra, I was comparing the Intrepid and the saber to the Kvort, not each other. I can see how it could be viewed that way based on how I wrote it.

The other thing I don't think was mentioned is that a few pulse turrets will help with Kvort spam, backed by a sensor turret if you have them. Pulses are slow firing, but they hit hard, and it will take a long time for them to die to kvorts. Once you've protected your resources, you can be more aggressive in your raiding and keep the klingon player on the defense. This is all just "general" advice, as each game will have unique circumstances, but that's another good option.

If my ships are intact after the first raid or two (or before, depending on the situation) when Im playing fed I almost always end up putting sensor turrets at my mining, and eventualy just ring my base with them to keep the builder moving.
It deffinitly makes things harder on the enemies scouts. As for pulse turrets, I build them if I have to, but I prefer to at least do phaser turrets cause they're long range, that said if it's just klink early game stuff the medium range of the pulse is no problem.
