IRRELEVANT!!  This topic is about strategy, not avatars or signatures!

Thanks for the tips on how to beat the AIs.  I'm starting to win on the smaller maps.  But I'm still struggling on the larger maps.  If I put an ally on the map, it wins the game for me.

sorry for the derail  :sweatdrop:

Don't worry about it.

For the larger maps, what vessels should I use to hinder the AI expansion?  On the smaller maps, I just used a scout cube, a few probes, and a couple spheres until I was able to build a cube to finish off the AI.  I can assume I'll need more vessels to do something similar, right?  And I can't seem to get the firepower I need quickly enough to get AIs resources.  What vessels could I use to defeat the enemy without needing firepower?

Destroyers like the B'rel and Sabre are normally used, things fast enough for hit and run attacks.

Do you attack the Freighters or the station?

I attack the following vessels in this order:

Constructors, freighters, stations.  I usually take out one or two freighters before taking out the stations, then I'll take-out whatever remains.  If there's enough resistance, I may divert my attack to the resistance.  Otherwise, I'll ignore the resistance.  Usually with the probes and scout cubes, I won't ignore the resistance.  But with spheres, I'll usually ignore low-end vessels until the primary targets have been taken care of.  If there are construction yards nearby, I'll take care of those first, then the mining stations.  But I always try to go for the nearby constructors first.  I may withdraw a couple of damaged vessels and lure the enemy to the base where the base takes care of them.

forgive me if I'm wrong, but I thought AI doesn't really have resources, so its not worth your time to attack the AI's mining. The thing that usually works best for me is destroying enemy shipyards, and taking their own mining so that I can compete with their production level.

AI does use resources, just at a massive reduction.

Even if they didn't, attacking them would still be effective because they'd have to take the time out of their schedule to rebuild them (they're still in the AI files). Freighters are fragile, it's easy to destroy enough to distract them for a while.

When raiding the AI's mining, ignore the constructors unless they're putting up turrets.  With the speed the AI builds those things, then you need to level the constructors.  But if you can take out the mining facility, the AI may not even try to build the turret or shipyard, and you can then smash the constructors at will.

Loss of a constructor isn't such a big deal to the AI as it is to a player.  They'll spit a new one out in an eyeblink, and there's fair odds they have more laying around anyway.  Loss of the freighters doesn't seem to affect them either, so I only hunt freighters as non-Borg, to level my ships.  As Borg, I kill them due to multi-beam or fly-by potshots.

In all my games vs the AI, killing those mining facilities is the key.  It's a big enough thing that Serkas or K'vort in a swarm with their special are a huge deal.  Fly them right into the enemy base, without autonomy, and drop their special on the mining facility and run to recharge.  Provided you have enough to take out the station, you set the AI back pretty badly.  Sometimes it won't even rebuild the station for a good 20 minutes or so, giving you plenty of time to continue systematically taking it apart.

As for if the AI has resources or not...I can't say for sure.  But based upon observation, it has some kind of ratio like 'if mining stations >= 2, then produce x' and if you can keep the number of stations down, you can keep it's production down.

This is purely observational, however.

My advice, Follow Tom's strat TO THE LETTER in the beginning.  Once you have completely taken their expansion,  build a couple more monsoons, making sure to buy specials and upgrades to keep your resources in check.  As long as you keep them from getting that moon set, they won't be able to build a ton more ships than you and you should just be able to over run them completely. I just tested and it workes great.  I smeared the Dominion AI merciless with Risner.

Oh, and as advice, try to keep an Avalon with your fleet when assaulting the main base.  The fighters work great for drawing fire from turrets and starbases.

What race is the "monsoons" for?  I'm usually playing as the Borg.
