I consider myself competent with romulans, yet i played two games with a klingon new player and got my ass kicked, how do i beat kligon.

I tried once with leahvals, and then next game changed my strat and used rheins with phase plates which should have done well against the kvort and kbeajq, yet of course klingons are able to produce alot more ships faster, so rommies are always outnumbered

Frigates used properly can still beat Kvorts :).  Plus, as Helev, a purely Kvort build will yield very little supplies :).  There are ways, grashopper ^-^.  Never count yourself dead.

A healthy mix of Rhienns /Frigates and turning the Rhienns in Disruptors later on will work.

OR .... spamming Disruptor Rhienns after about 7-8.  They murder everything Klingon.

This answer doens't go to Fleet Ops, but Star Trek Armada II, using the Reman Rebellion Mod and the Scimitar-class there and its Theleron Cloak allows it to attack well cloaked (this Special Weapon doesn't have to be researched for the Scimitar-class) so copy and rename the ODF and do the same for the SOD and give the ship to the Romulans as well, one word after that, one can destroy everything, two and a fleet is over kill, and then the Standard Units for my Reman.odf file is over kill still, 4 Scimitar-class starships you get to start out with and Shinzon's too.

Key word to destroying Klingons, the Federation, or even the Borg, Scimitar-class starships :) :)  :innocent: :whistling: :D :borg:

@ Jetnova - That has absolutely no use here whatsoever ...

@ Ray - So when you say: "Roms can't beat Klings", do you mean "Roms can't beat Kvort spam"?  Yes they can.  If they couldn't, you would not have been the one to figure it out just now.  And yes, Frigates means Generix Frigate Refits .... you know, the ones that reduce damage from pulses by 50% (30% passive and 20% size) against Kvorts that do 16% (50% - 34%) LESS damage total?  Those ones :).

2 second cloak vs. 4 second cloak with weak subs.

  You know, those ones :woot:

Can't stress enough how right this is. Only Klingon ship that can counter Frigates is Lupsets.

Didn't mean to come off as too harsh, Ray.

Part of it is that there is no real good COUNTER for this problem.  People seem to be getting used to the idea that everything has a direct counter and if there isn't one, it can't be beaten.

You're going to have to employ tactical choices to take on a Kvort rusher.  My suggestion is this in terms of strategics:

A Taq OR Martok Kvort rusher will likely make 2 yards to spam kvorts.  One will be at base and the other will be at their expansion.  That expansion will be a dilithium expansion to provide the di necessary for a double yard kvort spam.  If they do in fact do this, they will be living off of a single tri moon.  Use a few Rhienns with phase plates to destroy the tri miners.  If you get attacked by decloaking kvorts, turn on your phase plates and concentrate on those dirty miners.  You shouldn't be losing Rhienns with Plates to kvort early on so you're almost assured to get a few miner kills.  This will starve them for tritanium and they will see a halt in Kvort production (thereby eliminating their ability to outproduce you ^-^).

Butters recently did this to me and I was astounded by how quickly I was ground to a halt.

Actually that's probably sound advice for many situations, especially playing as a cloaking race where you can sneak near to their main base, as your opponent is probably more focused on protecting their vulnerable expansion.  Take out the Tri and its still stops or slows ship production.

People tend to worry more about hitting (and therefore protecting) Di mining.... so do the unexpected.

Depends on the strategy that your Klingon adversary used of course. There are many available strategies for Romulans and Klingons, so it is necessary to address one at a time. If you have the time I'd recommend looking at the build orders on the guide and the counter tables :). Note that producing only Leahvals (or indeed only 1 type of class for any faction) generally only works against very basic and mundane strategies.

Yup @ Dom.  Producing only a single unit leaves you at a disadvantage.

Just try and think beyond counters.  Counters are a critical gameplay element, but some things have to be meta-countered by attacking certain key points like tritanium production before they can achieve a critical mass of that unit.

Kill the boggerz before they can kill you... sound advice.
