If those 20 minutes are spent constantly dueling, then it's incredibly fun. If you aren't having any battles at all for an hour... I'd call that boring.

OK Here is just a few strategies that I use ( usually combined )

Spamming multiple targets with few ships so that I don't use up my resources.
keeping the enemy dealing with at least 3 or 4 things at once, ( bringing in a couple of ships luring them away.... and such )

ALWAYS build a second STRONG base, that is FULLY functional with duplicate research stations if resources permit, it's advisable to keep some ships at your base at all times, turrets take a while to build and are often ineffective cause to keep ships out you need to encase your entire base, keep 2 standby fleets to put out fires and to deal with light spamming, on big maps conquer all of the resources you can as fast as possible even if you can't escort your construction ships, keep an extra construction ship around, it's quite pesky to go back and build another one...

Only use turrets when you can't deal with spamming with just a small fleet of ships anymore, and keep the turrets clustered around sensitive areas, for the greatest effect.

Spamming, only to keep the enemy preoccupied, just enough that it doesn't look like your giving up but not like your winning ( if you are, if not, stop spamming in large numbers... just enough to distract em' to set up another base. ) let it go to their head... keep em busy till late game, once their, make sure you have a descent fleet... and get in position... as soon as they leave with a massive wave... take them down... they will meat Resistance at your base... but will be to tied up with trying to protect their own to realize that the powerful fleet they had is getting lured away and picked apart... once thier base is gone... they have no real hope... they will likely make one last assault and just send your ships over to take em' down... if they really have a good fleet... eh well then be prepared you still have a lot of fighting... just one slight difference... you should have positioned ships around mining bases. and taken em out when you were attacking their base.... if you hit everything at once you'll come out on top... most of the time.

EDIT: Some may call this underhanded but it does work... most of the time

so what happens if both people use the same strategy.  i imagine both people sitting there with tons of ships waiting for the other person to make the first move.  that could take awhile.

I'm a turtler, and I loved the ability on rise of nations to have x minute ceasefires at the beginning.

is there any way to put a cease fire system in this mod?  some kind of timer thing.

You can already have up to a 10 minute ceasefire...for some reason you can't select it in Instant Action games, but if you create an online game, set it on that, then save the settings, if you then load them in Instant Action then the ceasefire will still be observed.

....I hope that makes sense, I'm not sure that it does

its an amazing mod.  just for kicks i tried playing vanilla armada 2 and i barely completed the game i was gritting my teeth so hard having to look at those graphics.  there is so much discussion about how much this mod improves gameplay but i think people forget how much this mod improves visuals...........alot.

lmao. I cant play stock anymore for the same reason. We are spoiled now, It never ceases to amaze me what the Dev team has done with such a relatively old and non-complex engine. The best part, like dominus said there is only better to come.

Kudos

I personally love playing on defensive terms and turtling. The problem I find with that strategy in FO is the lack of a significantly strong defense system. The Borg seem to have the strongest turrets so I really can only pull off turtling as them (or Mayson with a cluster of torpedo turrets and a lot of luck). War is never won on defensive terms sadly  :crybaby:

You should check out the cost efficiency, it's actually kind of interesting. As far as I remember, I think the Klingon torpedo turrets are a bit more cost effective than a Mayson torp turret... and phaser turrets are the most cost effective of all turrets... but are medium range soooo.

I think Romie Mijural turrets are most cost effective once prefabricated :)

I would have loved to play against you as Klingon. With my trusty Bortas i'd take out the majority of your turrets in 1 blow :P

It won't work  :D

A tower-rusher is a Warcraft thing and going extinct at that.  Artillery ships and cloak have made that strategy a useless gesture.  You will expend unheard of resources trying and will be embarrassed by watching your hard-working construction ships be targeted like Osama-bin-Hiding.

  But you could try!

I'm partially a turtle.  I LOVE having a well-defended base.  I hate having my actual stations take even shield damage.  So odds are, if I've deployed ships away from my base, you can almost count on there being (at least at time of launch) just as many of the same or better waiting at home.  Unless, of course, I'm scrambling to save a mining outpost.  Or I'm Klingon or Rom, in which case the number of cloaked ships I've dumped around the map is anyone's guess (including mine.  I don't keep track of things like that.  I care about my visual coverage, not numbers.  Entirely possible to secure victory with a sudden strike from half your fleet when the enemy sends the bulk of theirs to crush your base.  Once they engage the Cho'naq and the Negh'var?  The Vorcha and Sang decloak, reducing the base to rubble in very little time.  After that, even if they wipe your base, odds are, they are damaged, and depleted.  Easy prey.)

I'm not the best, however, and lose regularly when I do go online (rarely, lately.  I also refuse to get these wippien and hamachi thingies.  I try to minimize extra software on my system.  I don't even have Ventrilo because of that.)  Part of that is the fact, mind you, that I am a poor micro-player (always have been) and hate to juggle multiple hotkeyed shipyards to keep the spam up.  On the other hand, my fleets tend to be quite mixed, as I'll frequently deploy a ship just because I like it (or to exploit an enemy weakness).  B'rel, K'vort, Sabre, Leahval, Vor'cha, Sovvie (I usually don't build any defiants unless I see a distinct need for critical shot...not a big fan of them) D'deridex, Shrike...when i'm playing the appropriate races for them, I never feel right without including as many of those ships as i can.  As Dommies...eh...I'm much more flexible.  Whatever works.  Borg, however, it's all about the Spheres and Cubes.  Perfection is a multi-targetting regenerative geometric shape.
