I just don't understand why people hate Neelix so much. :

I think they just see him as Trek's version of Jar Jar Binks.

Yeah. But still that's not much of a reason to hate him. :-P

What better way to provide crew moral than to take on 5 Borg hand to hand.

actually he is! in some way at least

Nelix... theres no reason to hate him but its just so fun to do. He wasn't moronic, he had some good scenes, he wasn't especially annoying. And yet...

Are people forgetting his legendary cooking skills? He nearly killed the crew several times.

Though he did get tricked by some idiot con-artists using an old trick... certainly had his idiot moments.

Ahh yes... I knew I forgot something. His cooking and morning show were shudder worthy.

indeed, he reminds people of their flaws, like being talkative and annoying in general, flaws most of us see in ourselves.

i pity him more than hate him. but i still find it fun to throw hate at him lol

Hmm, I liked Jar Jar Binks. As well as the Ewoks  :D.
Neelix just wasn't an interesting character. He cooked, and talked non-stop and then became "moral officer" or so.
There were worse characters in Star Trek, like... ah.... Wesley, or the female Founder.

You mean morale officer, a moral officer would be the guy telling Janeway to stop throwing the Prime Directive out the window whenever it's inconvenient to the plot (Maybe Neelix should've been moral officer, he at least had a conscience.)
Neelix was like a little 5 year old trying to play grown-up; kids are annoying. Imagine his character replaced by a child, would any of his actions have to be changed to fit a child character? Maybe he'd have to be kept out of harm's way more often, but that's all I can think of.
