I don't know if anyone has seen this yet, I saw this over on the ST Excalibur forums.
I doubt it will ever happen, but it's still really FUCKING COOL!
That said, the guy seems to have made a huge error: the size of his ship is ~900m which is WAY off; or rather it's the number which has been floating around since the last movie. Sooo.... I think his plan may be a mite broken.

How many people are bulding that thing? If it's gonna be the size the new movie thinks its ship is, its gotta be a lot of people.
Making the NX-01 is more believable.

wow this guy must be permanently drunk.
in 20 years we still won't have the return of supersonic passenger flights, we're not gonna get manned missions to mars and venus in a giant fictional spaceship.
also he says he made it large in order to support the gravity wheel because we don't have artificial gravity plates yet. it's also gonna powered by nuclear reactors instead of m/am, so he's taking as many liberties as needed with the design.
this is all pretty ridiculous, it's never gonna be funded the way he wants, he desires US government funding, and they have made their position on space exploration rather clear, it's not a priority any more. Nobody goes to the moon any more because there's no real point.
I think he's wasting his time and effort, but it's his to piss away, so let him have fun.
none, he has zero funding, it's just a dream atm.

In my opinion, the Enterprise starship is a dream. The design is easy, some kind of flying saucer. Building the matter-antimatter engine is the real challenge. In the future, Terran's could fly in space using some kind of Nelson Class Starship : http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~dheb/2300/Equipment/SG/Nelson/Nelson.htm#Index This is much more believable, like the Omega Class Destroyer with artificial gravity from Babylon 5: http://www.angelfire.com/ar2/ramdin2/im ... .jpg And for the engine could be used some kind of nuclear reactors or maybe powerful ion engines.

yeah i think the spinning wheel is asking for unnecesary dificulties, just spin the whole ship. just as it doesn't need to be that big because you don't want 1000 people on a space ship or even on a station for that matter

the term "fully functional" is far off onless the warp drive works,
and the transporters,
and the artificial gravity..
and the tractor beam..
and the phasers..
and the forcefields..
and the shields..
tho it (and this word gets way overused up to the point of describing biscuits but,) would be absolutely epic!
prefer the film refit to the show design..
defiant would be more practical, tho it wouldnt be possible for the gravity wheel.

I don't see anything flawed in the science of it, it's theoretically possible if enough people were behind it. I agree it's unlikely, but not impossible. Some of the ideas are downright brilliant.

it supposedly has a lazor for some reason. maybe he fears martian defences.

I dunno, some biscuits are pretty epic, especially if you are one of those retarded people who thinks jaffa cakes are a biscuit, they are pretty epic.

agreed, the tmp refit was what the 60's ent should have looked like, and maybe would have looked like if it wasn't 60's.
because we all know how great things from the 60's were:

We dont currently have the engine technology to make something of that shape fly at all.

the shape of the ship with the tech we have is just not practical. of all the federation ships if i had to pick one that this idea could be applied to it would have to be the defiant class as i think it has the most "stable" / stronger" hull shape. also i think such a "space ship" should be tested in earth oceans first. and on top of that .....such a ship would have to be build in space as its mass alone ....not to mention the structure of its hull would prevent us from launching it into orbit. ......and if it has to be constructed in orbit then the cost and time required to build such a ship would really bring up the cost.

Well, the shape doesn't matter as long as you're building it in space.
But for some moon and mars missions it's way too huge, and will be way too expensive.
The idea of building an Enterprise with 900m length in the next 20 years is as likely as a Star Wars fan building a death star. Not going to happen...

i agree with shape not being important if you wanna build it in space, which would increase the costs even more.
why would testing a space vessel in an ocean make any sense? they did this gag in futurama when the planet express ship was sinking into an ocean and they asked the prof how many atmospheres of pressure the ship was rated at and he curtly replied that it's a spaceship, so between 0 and 1.

I'd honestly rather see a real space ship beeing built then have those billions and trillions spend into military budgets.

agreed, and most people on this site would agree with you, but we're a site full of geeks who play star trek video games.
the politicians are still gonna waste money on useless military stuff for years to come.

What nonsense is this? The economy of the ENTIRE PLANET is going to shit and you wanna build spaceships?
