Red shirts have been named and survived repeatedly, minor crew members have had episodes devoted to them. Do you consider them main characters?

Your 'qualifiers' don't qualify for anything. The only one left is the rank, which also means nothing for their place.

you cant compare tng and tos in this way, look at tng title credits, all the people are credited there, they are main. the next step down is a big step to people like barclay, who are regulars.

in tos there were 3 mains, the regulars were closer to main than they were in tng. thats just a difference in the way it was done. i think it was an improvement, a show needs more than 3 main characters.

They also didnt do credits as well in general as society was slightly less litigious back then.

I would've preferred such a movie over Generations. If Kirk and Picard are going to be onscreen at the same time, neither should get a bridge dropped on him.

If JJ does make something like this, it might actually work almost as well as First Contact. Who knows, maybe he'll even manage to not make enormous plot-holes while he's at it (but that would probably require someone else to write major portions due to time-travel related plot hole possibilities. Would probably work best if the Borg only time-travelled accidentally.)

That or have it occur during an attempt by Temporal Affairs to return Spock home.

Since Temporal Affairs prime would not know he lived (unless the plot is about a one in a million discovery by them) prehaps have Spock prime assist in setting it up in the alternete reality, as they would no doubt see the need for such a bureau.

Plus Spock prime could arrange for them to get the Guardian of Forever years earlier that way.

Then just have that turn into the attempt to return Spock prime home gone Borgy.

It COULD be done..... but I dont see Jar Jar Abrams doing it.

I mean hell he cant even do a Kirk barfight without product placement........

I know it wasnt the first product placement in trek, but still it was I think the most obvious one in all of trek. Ever.
