Competition?

What's your favourite episode? How is romulan ale brewed? - Star Trek in general :-)

I just tried Future Wars, and I gotta say, it surprsingly has a balance of somekind. Because you need huge fleets to take out an outpost, and a bigger one for the starbase.

Plus the fact that ships have differing strengths and weaknesses kinda looks like a version of fleetops without the special coding or the rankups. Could it be possible they are trying to compete with fleetops? ???

Well, FO is the gold standard for Armada 2 mods.  So I'm sure there will be some imitation.  But since Optec and Doca freely give their ideas and secrets to help the community, I don't think they'll be too worried. :)

As far as being balanced, did you play all the races against others in multiplayer?  That's the only way you're going to find if it's balanced or not.  Over 20 new ships per race does not sound like a well balanced game to me, but I haven't played it, so maybe it is.  But more power to them, I'm impressed that there is such a strong Armada 2 community and that others are working hard to make their own creations. ^-^

I haven't played it, but from what I've heard it's apparently as close as a stock game can get to FO.

How does the number of ships per side effect balance?

The higher number of ships, the harder to balance.

Harder, but not impossible.

One thing that gets me stumped is that all the clips are in german, plus the english edition has numerous misspellings. :D But the dynamics of it are superb. Because unlike FO, you need a REAL fleet to even blow up an outpost, let alone the starbase. So far I played most of the races, and this is what I find:

Federation:
They have a proffession in making strong ships, for their ships can take a good beating.

Maquis:
Their ships are very effective in strikes when in good numbers, after all that is what the Maquis is all about.

Klingon:
The stations are very bulky, and also heavily armed compared to most counterparts of other races.

Romulans:
They seem to be defensive specialists, also the cloak makes them good for hit and run attacks.

Borg:
I haven't been able to get a game working with these yet, but by what I hear these are of a race where their effectiveness vs cost ratio is of best.

Besides having the longest install time of any game (or mod for that matter) that I've ever played, I actually had a bit of fun with this mod. Still, Flee Ops just has this feeling to it when you play it, and Future Wars still has that hardcore stock A2 feel to it which I don't exactly like. It does seem fairly balanced, though only if you have a massive fleet at your disposal. I also have to give kudos to the ship designs for the Feds, those future ships look freaking epic for them. Can't say much for the Maquis though.... they are rather stupid imo...

I really like this ship... actually it looks like what would happen if FO ever decided to do an Achillies Image

Off Topic:
PM ADM. Zaxxon if you want his implementation of the Achilles for FO. I got the beta, not sure if it's completed yet but it is very well done.  :sweatdrop:

You know that ship makes me want to import it into FO

Just download Gamers USS Q and all the work is done (except for balancing, that's DIY).

Anyone knows if it works with Sins v1.04 (the latest free patch I think)?

I never will register any of my games online so I do have a vandetta with Stardock.
Galactic Civ 2 wanted to know my email after the first patch later Impulse and Sins just need Impulse. And nobody told it before.  :pinch:

It could be good enough to test it. And better then the Star Wars Empire at War Mod I tried.
