  Hello everyone,

As some of you are aware I've had the privilege of sharing the companionship of my ex-girlfriend's hamster, Stella for the past 2 years.  Recently she had become very lethargic and sickly and last night she passed in her sleep.

Those of you who have shared in laughing with me about her role as the power-source for my ancient computer will likely know her as I do by "Piggie".

In the situations like these that we sometimes find ourselves having it can be hard to know exactly how to handle the loss of something special, even if it is as small as a hamster.  I had been expecting her death for nearly 2 weeks now and had even planned on taking her to the vet today to have her put to sleep.  She was unable to eat or walk properly and I had been feeding her baby-food through a plastic syringe.  It was definitely the right time for her to go and I'm glad she was able to do so here in our home.

I know that she's just a hamster, but I have often thought about how many strange parts of my life have come to know her and share in the laughter about her.  Friends in my hometown know of her, friends and co-workers here in Los Angeles know of her, and even you folks here on the anonyweb happen to have shared a laugh over her.  That has made me feel that the little buddy I've been lucky enough to care for deserves to be mentioned for all of us to remember that, despite how small or covered in hair you may be, you can have a distinct effect on people's daily lives, whether they realize it or not.

Thank you to all of you who have laughed with me because of my Piggie.  I will be placing her in a new pot under my Banana Tree so that her little furry Piggie memories may nurture another living thing.

:(

I remember how hard it was to feed my dog Jodie through a syringe before we had to put her to sleep. :(

I will remember Piggie and all the jokes we had about that hamster being the brains behind your playing. :fox:

Thanks for sharing Piggie with us, Joey.

Im sorry for your loss.  :(

I also own a pet and I know very much how attached you get to him/her, yet I can only imagine how hard it will be when he's gone...

to you she wasnt "just" a hamster.

we get attached to our pets quite a bit, phlox commented on our attachment to lower lifeforms. so the passing of a pet can be devestating, i was a mess when my cat went to the cheezburger factory in the sky.

condolences.

:(  I"m sorry man.  I have had many 'Piggie's' but they are all gone now,  a few lived many years, a few lived only a short time(this was normal for that type of hamster) some longer than they should(super piggies lol)  but it is always sad when they leave.

it is true that I had a...evil...hamsters= that I really didn't care for(it had red eyes :o), but the ones we love are the ones that hurt the most when they are gone.

Rest in peace piggie. :'(

Hey Boggz, I know we have not gotten along much recently, but I would like to say I'm sorry that you have lost your hamster. I know what it can be like (since I have lost pets in the past), and I know it can be like you have lost a close friend.

I hope you feel better soon. We're all here for you.

Condolences on your loss.  Piggie is not really gone as long as you keep her in your heart.

Always look on the bright side of life: now you've got a Banana Gerbil. Or... a Gerbil flavored Banana [sup]TM[/sup]  . Sorry to hear the news though, time to put those protozoa to work powering your computer.
