While waiting on the patch... Masters of Orion 2! (it's awesome, btw)

Oh, sure, remind me of that.  I always feel dirty once I create the invincible ship...but I always end up making it, because I hate managing money enough to field huge fleets.

In fact, I make about 8 of them, that just fly around glassing enemy planets.

Absolutely! That was my top favourite game for years! Still playing it frequently since 1999. To sad it doesn't work over tunngle or any other VPN.

MOO2 is definitely the best of the series and IMO the best game of it's type, no others come close.  You can now get MOO2 on GOG.com too.

MoO2 was pretty epic. I loved a lot of the playable races such as the Silicoids. It's such a pity that MoO3 was a massive disappointment. Blade's right though, I'd consider Galactic Civilizations 2 to be a spiritual successor to MoO2... It blows the third installment out of the water.

I never played GalZiv2 ... Heard a lot of it though to be a nice successor. MoO3 was the biggest dissappointment in my gamer life. I was quite active on mmo3planet but when it came out I was wondering how so much time can be spend to create something that bad? The whole game consisted out of tables over tables, a killing flair (mainly cos of those bad "sounds" in the background), also very complicate organizing scheme...you havent any clue what was what and what would effect what... and then those battles. I mean...nice idea to make it real time but I spend more time waiting for some pixels to show up than fighting.

Lately I made some research for a potential MoO4. Atari still owns the license...so no way of seeing a new chance. So long i stick to my subterranean, telepathic, creative race that turns into warlords after evo mutation.

Btw... which tactics do you prefer? I usually rush the weakest race in range and use my telepathy skills to take over his entire world.

Gal civ 2 is cool you could custom design your ships in 3d using various pieces check out this page for some examples of what people made

Spread to a sustainable, defendable degree, teching hard the whole time.  Relentless teching, in fact.  The goal is to have each vulnerable world have a supremely powerful ship.  Usually the invincible ship.  Other invincible ships then deploy outward individually.  Anybody except me who develops Dimensional Portal gets immediate visits from my most advanced ships, and the visits don't stop until that technology is wiped out.

invincebal ships? there are no...only the stasis generator is a bit overpowered. The Antarian btw can be captured quite early :)

Why would you want that if MoO2's multiplayer just works fine? ;)
It still has a breathing mp community. Note that the DOS version of the game is used by the majority of players and is better balanced thanks to the fans. The Windows version is causing too much trouble on most current systems.

I like MoO2. But I like Imperium Galactica 2 more. I think it's bcause of the way to build the colony and the groundfights. Just the shipweapons are to strong lategame.
It's sad, that they just made Nexus the Jupiter Incident out of the remains of the canceld IG3.

Oh, yes there is.  And here's the key systems so you can realize that any time you've done multiplayer against a tech-race, they've either not known this, or been merciful.

Requirements:

Phase Cloak
Time Warp Facilitator
Hyper-X Capacitors

Optional:
Everything else.  Don't worry about defensive items at all, they don't matter.  I suggest the best Phasors or Particle Beams you can put on it, in the greatest number you can.  I also suggest achillies targetting unit.

How to use:
You'll begin the battle phase-cloaked.  This is good.  Fly forward to easy firing range, and start popping ships.  Use both Hyper-X salvos.  End first turn.  Time Warp facilitator will kick in, giving you a second turn.  End it immediately.  Phase Cloak will re-engage, and Hyper-X Capacitors will recharge.  Your opponent will be unable to fire upon the ship.  Only options will be to sit and wait for you to wipe him out, or retreat.

Repeat until win.

Introduce me. I once was using a DOS one but that was a hell of complicated stuff to do and then the fact of not having someone to play with destroyed my hopes.
