Hello there forum crawlers >:)
Since I'm working again (don't ask .. realy), I had no time to play.
But I had the pleasure to listen to a lot of music recently
and as you guessed it I did listen to a lot of metal as usual, nothing really new there, but this time I have been listening to female singers, one specially.
I almost forgot about her, since I have a decent collection, yet I'm rediscovering how good they (and she) are (is).
For me, not question about it, she is the top class metal queen : Doro Pesch.
So I'm not going to bore you longer with info, after all you have hands and have obviously access to the word wide weeeeed and you can find out more about her if you so desire.
I would also like to give you a list you should listen to at least once in your life, and then if you did not like it move on (I'd prefer you shooting yourself, but I can't force you to have the same taste as I).
Warlock Dark Fade
Warlock All we Are
Warlock I rule the Ruins
Warlock Kiss of Death
Warlock East meets West
Warlock Touch of Evil
Warlock Metal Tango
Doro Celebrate
Doro Thunderspell
Doro Dedication
Doro Angels with dirty Faces
Doro Cry Wolf
Doro Burn it up
Doro Even Angels Cry
and finally Doro Unholy love
Why this tread ? Hit me with your best female singer, and aye: rock/metal only, no noise some other people call music (
)
Rock'n'Roll 'till I bite the dust and even after that ... Dexter .. a metalhead (
)

Doro Pesch is very kick ass!!!...I personally enjoy Angela Gossow of Arch Enemy...I have played the Anthems of Rebellion album for a lot of people and the dont belive that the singer is actually a woman lol...then I show them the pics and vids and they are OMGWTF!!!!!....but Doro Pesch is in a class all of her own, and she has been around a good amount of time to and still kicks ass!!
In more terms of rock singers though I have always thought Pat Benatar was the queen of female rock singers. And yes she does have a lot of ladeda stuff that I allmost call crap but then she also has a lot of great stuff as well.

I have occasionally listened to the sounds of Within Temptation and Lacuna Coil. Both of those women have pretty good voices. Lately I have discovered a rather odd group called The Birthday Massacre. This group might fall under your definition of "noise" sometimes, but I find her voice absolutely amazing. If you do listen to any of their songs, I suggest "Red Star", "Blue", and "Looking Glass", though there are others I like.

*sigh*. Me and this type of metal are on a warpath, so I can't really say much about the output of Madame Pesch.

Glad to see you also know about them, I mean female rock/metal singers.
Thank you for mentioning a few names, like:
Within Temptation: Sharon den Adel
Hehehe, I have the full discography and I enjoy it monthly, even if it's classified as Symphonic/Gothic metal.
Lacuna Coil: Cristina Scabbia
The first time I ever heard them was in Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines, to be honest I don't have there discography, and I'm not to familiar with them, not that it's bad, but I did not enjoy there songs as much. Perhaps I should listen some more songs from them
, yet I'm not that "trilled".
Arch Enemy: Angela Gossow
Aye, the first time I heard them was on free internet radio station, and I liked some of there songs. Later when I finally evolved, if you can call it that, and got net connection at home I goggled them in my free time and I found out that the singer is a woman. I was not terribly surprised but, well, she had nothing feminine in her voice that would have made her attractive to me. Somehow women "singing" in that style (growling) loose there charm, and I forget that I'm listening to a woman, growling.
Pat Benatar
Well I guess I should be shot, as I don't recall listening to her songs (maybe 'cuse I'm not a new continental ? I'm on the old continent
). To be honest even now after listening to some of her songs, I recall hearing them in my youth (then not knowing whom she was), I'm not that "impressed" with her voice, not meaning that she's bad or anything, there is just something missing, or to popish ? Maybe I have an ear problem ? Oh well, guess I'm to set in my so called "taste" when it comes to female singers
The Birthday Massacre
Can't really say I know them. I listened to what you suggested MyOwnSling, I'm not to impressed, can't say I'm a big fan of the "New Wave" (at best they are alternative rock right ?), and it takes a bit to get used to there style, but it did not bore me to tears either
I think I should research them a bit more
so I guess I should thank you.
To Brother Gabriel, I'm sorry you where disappointed, as far as I can tell her voice has not changed over the years, granted you can notice that time passed, but it's not that important to me. Frankly I don't care how old or how a singer looks as long as I like there singing voice, and Doro's last album was really good, at least for me. Sadly I have newer been to one of her live concerts
To Smoerebroed: I'm really enjoying the 80's metal and it's style more than our current times so called "New Wave", even some of the "glamour metal" bands of that time produced better "noise" then what is currently "available".
Hope I did not miss anything, and keep them coming. I certainly am not an expert, and it shows I don't know them all.

Yeah, the birthday massacre people classify themselves as "synth rock". A lot of their non-live music is synthesized. I am not sure how I feel about them as a whole but I figured I might as well mention them since they seemed almost on the fringe of what you were looking for.

Doro's albums did sound good.
Problem in wacken was her Personality, she killed the atmosphere by her acting.
To say it shortly: she didnt rock.

Maybe someone could help me find one in my taste of interest. My favourite band is Nickelback

Nickelback?
That's not metal, nor even real rock. That's just force-fed generic pseudo-pop.

My favs:
Amon Amarth, Kataklysm, Equilibrium, Thyrfing, Blind Guardian, Children of Bodom, Dope, In Flames...
If your search for badass songs, there are many of them out there. I like 1/32 or 1/64, good melodies, a hars baseline, a good rhythm... you know? Here a small list of what I think badass is:
Amon Amarth:
They have all 5 stars in my playlist.
For Kataklysm, I didnt made a star system, I just listen through them. For a good example:
Equilibrium is in my opinion one of the best Metal cracks in the world. They come from germany (I too) and they only to badass jobs in complex, eye candy melodic, fast and head cracking songs. They are just awesome.
Just a small summary. And there are many more out there.
Nickleback is just pussy rock.
