decompiling the exe is illegal in most cases since when you buy the product you are agreeing to a contract called the EULA (end user license agreement) thats why they always force you to say you have read and agree to the license. when you click agree you are entering into a contract and have to obey anything legally enforcable (in your location) in that contract. and one of the conditions (in nearly every EULA for proprietary software ive seen) is that you dont disassemble the software or attempt to backwards engineer it in anyway.

if you violate the EULA you are breaking contract law since you agreed to be bound by the EULA when you pushed agree. you can avoid agreeing the EULA by not using the software and returning it. but then you dont have the software and cant decompile it anyway. :pinch:
