So I won't attack your base.  You just won't be able to communicate with me during the game if I decide to stay.  For making an effort at not using profanity, I'll send friendly reminders, but for making no effort, I'll either ignore you, or I'll leave the game.

I did, and it is still a childish threat.  If you don't want people to swear, definitely don't make them mad by not talking to them.  That is just asking to get cussed out.  Ask them nicely, and if they don't stop, ignore the words or leave.  If you aren't strong enough to ignore that kind of thing anyway, maybe you shouldn't expose yourself to it in the first place.

True, but the simpler solution is to just play the AI .  It will not curse at you and if it does, you can not talk to it all you want. :D

Alternate solution: play the AI, they never use profanity.

EDIT: Ninja'd by Zaxxon!...

I'm not expecting perfection.  Just a good effort, which I have already said.  And what I should have asked for when I posted this thread instead of threatening to fire on the base.  I shouldn't have made that threat at all and I'm sorry for it.  But I will ask you to try not to use profanity.

Let me be just as blunt.  As much as it seemed "childish" to make that threat about firing on the base, which it probably was.  It is just as "childish" to use profanity without at least making an effort to not use it.

Can I swear on the forums? because now I want to swear a lot more. If your offended by what people say then mute the mic

  I, and I"m sure everyone else here is glad for you to have come to that conclusion.  Though... I would remove the last paragraph, I think that that settles it.

If there is a mod around, I would recommend that somebody lock this threadbefore this happy ending is tarnished.  :whistling: too late...  *facepalm*

you shouldnt expect anything. u cant expect people to behave in a way you want. part of being a member of a diverse community is accepting that people are different. and profanity is pretty standard and normal in most communities. you shouldnt accept people trying to insult you, that is intending to be nasty to you and swear at you directly with the intent of causing you offence. but i would wager that nobody is using profanity in such a way, they are using it because that is how they talk normally.

its very big of you to apologise, i for one will let this go.

why didnt you start with something so harmless? the answer would have still been no, but you wouldnt have provoked such passionate reactions.

again, thats your values, the rest of the community have different values.

I have wayy too much experience muting fools over services like Xbox live, its a lot easier to be profane when you can't put a face to who you're talking to. Competitiveness often leads to this kind of attitude, if you're polite at the start of the game I think most rational people would be gracious about losing or winning. I try my best to be polite, though I am new at this, alas some people may bring out some "noob" monikers... etc.

TCR is being a bit thin skinned about this people are almost always nice in FO multiplayer for one reason the audience of FO is older than your averaged live halo match. Even if you are new they will try to help you.

Agreed.

I think what he's really referring to is not people cussing each other out like on something like Xbox live where people are almost always new to you.

I swear a lot in games because I just have a habit of doing it :).  Rarely is it something meant in anger, it's just part of being fun and young!

This, however, is the first I've heard of his objection to "naughty words".

Let me be blunt:  If you are going to threaten leaving a game for ANY reason, I simply won't play with you.  ^-^

Same, I dont really do MP anyway, but at least you have the ability to apologize.

My advice: When you get a match going, ask people not to curse in open chat or team chat for your team. That will cut down a lot on issues.

When people say ahead of time they wont stop, thank them for saying it in advance, and put them on a list of people to avoid playing with (but note they at least have the decency to be nice about it even if they do slip up)

When people simply do it regardless, put them on a list of people to NOT play with.

That or only play against people who keep cursing, and tell them to bite the curb as you blow up their base.

I won't just quit for any reason.  And this isn't the first time I've made an objection to profanity.

If I leave a game, I always state my reason for leaving.  Most of the time, it's because the game is over.  Other times it'll be because of lag.  If it's something else, I will state my reasons for leaving.  And while I may not leave for profanity, I will ignore the player using the profanity if that player doesn't at least make an effort to not use it.

@Tok`ra
Thanks for the advice about asking on a per-game basis for players not to use profanity.  I'll definitely do that.

PS:  I am always more lenient towards mistakes.  I should have showed that in the first post as well but I didn't.  Sorry.

When it comes to lag here is my advice: set up rules for that game ahead of time (or the community sets up standards on it).

My recomended rules: If someone calls lag, everyone stops. No attacking. Non-combat actions can depend on mutual agreement (however that'd be hard with Borg present).

What'd be cool is if there were a 'lag' cheat command that when entered in causes a ceasefire to start as well as halting all resource gathering and construction/repair (or as much as possible).

However baring that, just get people to agree on how to deal with lag lasting more than a brief time before the match starts.
