Man how you do you leave the house in the morning?? Where exactly is it that you work that no one swears? Ill be the first to admit im not a fan of people cussing all the time and i dont but im not going to get in peoples faces because i have bigger fish to fry. Since you have made this ultimatum if someones playing a game with you and they wish to swear they should just attack you before they do? Or perhaps everyone should just exclude TCR from their chats. Or maybe people will just kick you before the game starts because they never know whos side you are on or when you will quit.

Yea and I already didn't want to play with you anymore because your randomly quit games because of a little lag

wow why was i asleep when this amazing thread happened.

seriously, i dont like ganging up on the underdog, but tcr you leave very little room to take your side here. njm hit the nail on the head, you regularly make arbitrary demands and they come accross as rude. and you arent gonna impose your odd custom of no swearing on the online community. people will continue to swear, and as a policy, any game i host has the explicit policy that swearing is permitted.

I had to look up profanity in the dictionary, now I know a new word. Fleet Ops is teaching me English :D.

Well, TCR you can't tell people how to use their language. Within history, people tried it again and again - it doesn't work. People speak the way they want and the way the are understood. That's all. There might be a small minority that tries to implement rules that would change the language, but very little of that is usually taken over by the majority of speakers. But I can only say that for German, perhaps it's different with the English language :D.

And well, swearing... Even my grandpa swears every now and then. If something goes wrong you want to let people know, it's an important part of communication. I usually don't get upset because I'm losing a game(only if everything goes wrong from the first minute and it's no fun), others do and in order to express that the easiest(and shortest) way is swearing. There is nothing wrong with it.

There is absolutely no excuse for swearing under any conditions.  At the very least, make an attempt to keep it down to a minimal.

ADDITION:
I won't attack anyone's base, but the team will still be at a tactical disadvantage for swearing in some way or another.

If the profanity is coming in through teamspeak, I'll mute the mic and speakers.  If it's coming through the chat, I'll ignore the chat.  Communication will become impossible.

Theres also absolutely no reason to be offended by it.
I guess if somebody told me it bothers him i would stop. (or at least try to  :pinch: )
But why get offended by them, they are just words, theyre not gonna hurt anyone.

I suggest you book an appointment with your doctor you appear to be suffering from the female ailment of menstruation, this is a serious condition in males.

There is nothing wrong with swearing in general, iv seen it from most players and if you cant handle it then you know where to go.

If its directed at you then theres probaly a good reason if your willing to attack their base just because someone says something in general that you dont like.... tough its a free world.

I agree with Nim.  I don't appreciate swear words any more than you TCR, but this is not the way to handle it. Making childish threats is never how you get what you want.  Especially on this forum.  Simply ask politely, in game, who ever is bugging you to 'please cut it out with the swear words' or something like that.  I have no doubt that most gamers here would simply stop or use a substitute(if that is any better) if you just asked them directly, and politely. No, you can't guarantee they will stop, but you definitely won't get them to stop by making a threat to attack your base or quit.

I take it you didn't read this part of my previous post:

So I won't attack your base.  You just won't be able to communicate with me during the game if I decide to stay.  For making an effort at not using profanity, I'll send friendly reminders, but for making no effort, I'll either ignore you, or I'll leave the game.

says you, i think swearing is fine. and you arent gonna get the community to agree with you on swearing being bad, since most of us swear.

threatening your prospective team mates (by saying "dont swear or i'll put us at a tactical disadvantage") will only mean one thing, nobody will play on your team, simple as.

you're the abnormal one here, you will have to accept the swearing, cos the entire community isnt gonna change their behaviour just to appease you, especially since you didnt ask nicely.

PART 1:
While I don't see the viability of a Fleet-net wide regulation. Here's what you can do. I suggest requesting or independently (not recommended) forming a moderative group for screening this type of language. Of course  you would head or lead this group in a direct manner (right?). This will neither ensure the elimination or curbing of the language that offends you as they could just ignore or kick a member of this group from their games and or chat.

Though I only see this request working large scale if your one of these:  :borg:
It also would of helped to regulate your own language in the form of tone and perceived intent at the onset of the starting post.

PART 2:
On a side bar do you like debates? Because it seems that most if not all threads you start or post in (that I've read anyway) starts a debate between you and one or more of the fellow members.

Your Fellow Fleet member,

Every single post you have made in this topic has been dripping with condescension. Even now, you're acting as if you're compromising and doing some huge favor for everyone else, but really you're just reasserting your demands and trying to appear more reasonable. I say trying, because with each post you only sound more and more condescending and melodramatic. You're acting as if this is a matter of life and death, that if you hear so much as one term of profanity your very life would be in danger.

I'm truly not trying to be a jerk here, but I'm being blunt because I don't think you understand that you do not have a right to not be offended. Other people have freedoms too, one of them being the freedom of speech. There are things people are allowed to do that others will not like - this is how the world has always been. If you don't want to hear endless strings of profane language, you have every right to reasonably say that you dislike profanity and would appreciate not hearing it.

Someone above mentioned the concept of a game-by-game basis, and I think it's a great idea. What that would mean is playing as usual, and if someone on your team is using it, you are well within the bounds of reason to ask them to curb it. If they don't soldier through the game and remind yourself not to play with them again if it really bothers you that much. However, you cannot rudely make a blanket demand of the dozens of others who play fleetops and add to it childish threats should you not be obeyed to your satisfaction.

To put it in less than perfect terms, majority rules. If one person is offended by the actions of a far larger group who are not breaking the law, the burden of responsibility is on the one to sack up and deal with it. If you can't stand people who drink, you avoid bars. If you don't like smoking, you avoid hanging out with people who smoke.

There are ways to deal with things that offend you, and what you've demonstrated here is the worst way to go about that. If you truly cannot bear to be exposed to any profanity whatsoever, your best option is to completely disconnect your internet and spend the rest of your life sitting in your house. I'm not saying that I or anyone else here is perfect, but it's taken me a decent amount of effort not to respond the same way kestrel did. By making these demands ( and doing it so condescendingly that I can't wrap my head around it), you are showing more disrespect to the FO community as a whole than any one member is showing to you be using profanity.

And honestly, if this is the attitude you take whenever someone does something you don't like, you need to get yourself checked for a narcissism disorder. Regardless, I wish you the best of luck figuring this all out, and I hope you're able to experience the personal growth to be able to look back and understand why we're all reacting to this the way we are.

The solution is quite simple TCR...just play well and there is no need for profanity...
