Same should apply with the Klingons too.

If you do that, you'd probably need to translate near-enough every ship name to get the proper effect... probably better off left as it is; proud, but not xenophobic enough to ignore good names when they see them. Current Klingons only do it for some individual ships rather than classes, anyway.
Starfleet already uses Romulan names (D'deridex Class, instead of the english Warbird Class), so maybe they are just called that? Every species looks similar, so the language developing some words the same is hardly strange.

I think the Griffin should be renamed to "Tal'Aura"
Optec has to read from here:
I believe Tal'Aura is a good name because of the Griffin 'Sensor Jammer' special which disables enemy sensors in vanilla and caused ships and stations to become blind.
This in a sense reminds me of the Tal'Shiar cuz they do their stuff secretly and no one knows about it and I think the Griffin could be a Tal'Shiar design which is used as a military vessel because of that particular special ability.
Everyone else can start here:
The Senator's name starts with ''Tal'' and the Romulan spy group name starts with "Tal"
The Aura part can reflect the ships special abilities and how it affects the fleet and could be used as a 'newbi' tool tip to give a
sense of what the ship will do before building it.
Tal'Aura comes from a senator's name from the wiki found here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Romulan
oh look i found her on memory alpha too: http://en.memory-alpha.org/wiki/Tal%27aura

While the idea itself is great I prefer keeping the names as they are. Who says that those names aren't the official names used by them English or not it doesn't matter. After all Intelligence services could have revealed those as true names to the Federation and other factions. Giving 2 different class names one for non Romulans and a own for a Romulan player only will only confuse the player.Keeping that aspect in mind it would mean that other races should give other class names to other faction ships as well. So instead of a Akira being called that way the Romulans may call it suddenly "Gustav" to give a stupid example. That's pointless.Like I said before the idea is great and shows your good intention but to be honest I don't think much of it.

A disagree here, 23down. Each race's gameplay should feel from their respective position. If they keep the designations from Staarfleet the race will always feel like the observed one from Starfleet. If you play Romulan, you are Romulan. You are not a Starfleet Admiral sitting in front of your console playing Fleet Ops - they should bring this in Star Trek 2, Ensign playing Fleet Ops on tactical console. So far I love the new names.

What does a name have to do with gameplay, other than confusing everyone? Giving each ship 6 names (one per faction) is just going too far. Think of the newbies.
Besides, as I said before; how do you know the words don't simply exist in both languages? Hideki is both a Cardassian word and a Japanese name.

Call me nostalgic, but the original names suit me just fine.

We still plan to mention and use the classic English names as Federation designations for these classes, but a Romulan player should get the Romulan thing.
So, let's say Arash example, the Tal'Aura is a Tal'Aura in everyones point of view, otherwise it just get's confusing, and in my opinion quite retarded.
And some reasoning: i do play all races, but which designation should i use when i talk to my ally? Or let's even think about replays.
What about the players who don't play all races? "Target the Griffin" > "The what?"
And for the original point of view feeling: what about the view of other species? It's unlikely the Griffin is a Griffin for the Klingons, or especially the Borg - "Hey mate, focus fire on vessel type 24785!" > "Damnit, the Shrike is the 24785, or was it 24786"
Don't get me wrong, im definitely a fan of renaming the vessels to something more "romulan'ish", but at least keep it consistent for all players... and stop smoking whatever you smoke, cause i can't really figure out how you could think this is a good idea

Edit and p.s.: please don't overcomplicate simple stuff like vessel names, please...

Yep I totally agree with beserene. He brings it on to the point. Teamplay was already hard enough as it is in 3.2.6. Adding that feature makes it even harder be it on voice or text chat.
