i agree with these sentiments, the episode was genuinely funny, a high point for trek. the squabbles about the stupid ship can't tarnish a fun episode.

and i think it looks fine when not being chopped into 3.

When there here's ya a deal, if it wins it won't get the chopy chopy weapon, or maybe as a non-sinceical last resort that you have to pay out the nose to have

works fine for me, i'd accept it then. all anybody talks about with the prommie is mvam though, and the mvam lovers might rebel. also there was no description of the combat strength of the prommie without using mvam, although i'd assume it was still stronger than most ships due to it being designed for combat.

The Prometheus is a handsome ship, agreed.

To me MVAM is a concept rooted in Riker's use of the Enterprise-D's separated saucer section in "Best of Both Worlds". The usefulness of it is tricky to call. It'll depend on how much weaker the three parts are compared to the whole, and how shields actually work. There can be value in being able to flank an enemy by yourself, for example. Ultimately, there wasn't enough detail given in the episode to be able to properly tell.

to me there is very little comparison with the strat in bobw.

bobw: used as a distraction, not for combat purposes, firstly riker was counting on the borg to ignore the saucer due to it being less of a threat in combat, then the saucer was firing loads of little useless attacks designed solely to stop the borg seeing the shuttle that was launched from the saucer.

the point of that separation was infiltration via shuttle, not combat effectiveness. all of this was mentioned in the episode, riker counted on the fact that shelby had briefed picard (and hence the borg now know about it) that a good strat would be to separate the ship and rely on the stardrive to do the main fighting. hence the borg knew what to expect and decided that they should focus their efforts on combating the stardrive section.

mvam was purely for combat, each ship launched an almost identical attack (the very creative, shoot the enemy with phasers strat, which the ship probably could have done while in one piece).
