Last night I had a nice idea for an unusual game using MMM, and I thought it was about time that I actually showed something interesting to you guys.

Anyway, here is an adventure game test (attached). You'll need to extract the structure to your stock A2 installation, and run the first tutorial mission.

Commands :
Moving:
north/n/northeast/ne/east/e/southeast/se/south/s/southwest/sw/west/w/northwest/nw
Other:
hail [ship]
use [object]
stop
pickup [object]

Not much to do at the minute, but you get the idea from the mission. Check objectives screen for info on what to do.

If anyone has any issues running it, post here and I'll help out.

Didn't think it would all go smoothly. I'll have a look into it.

Are the objectives definitely in the objectives directory? I had that crash when I forgot to copy them in once.

Hey Megadroid!  I was able to get it started, however, I wasn't able to interact with anything.  My galaxy was able to fly to the nebula class, but nothing happened, and I fought the shrikes guarding the flag, which stated they were engine parts (for the neb), but I couldn't interact with anything.  Also could not go into the wormhole and when I tried to saucer separate, the game crashed.

Also, I didn't see anything in the mission objectives besides explore the region and you mentioning that this was a new gameplay element.  I have lua and pretty sure I have the patch project.  I put it into my copy of A2 specifically set up for your previous mod and just dumped the files into that folder.

I think it's great though!  A very cool concept!

Edit:  Some other things.  This wrote over the previous MMM1, as it uses the same tutorial mission, and I only see mmmadv1 and mmadv2 in the objectives folder, but not mm1.  And in game, mmmadv1 is the only one that shows up.  Hope this helps.

Yes that right. Well that mmm is from the old version, but that shouldn't be a problem. I don't think its that then, I'll keep looking. I have an idea as to what it could be.

Hey Mal,

Did you use the text commands? When you are near the nebula, try entering "hail nebula" in the chat. When at the item, try "take parts". Without the quotes. There is also "use wormhole" to enter the wormhole (later in the mission).

The other commands should work with chat too. Entering n will move north, e east, s south and w west. Stop stops you.

Oh!  Well, I didn't because I'm dumb.  I read adventure, but for some reason I wasn't equating it with text adventure.  I'll try that now! ^-^

I got everything to work!  It was fun and pretty neat.  This is showing me that there are aren't many things lua can't do!

Good to hear that it worked OK for you.

Anyone who downloads the mission can actually try making their own missions using that version of MMM. Just edit the UI Tutorial.lua file. I'm going to move the documentation from the current wiki over to Assembla, where I've set up a public space so people can report bugs or any problems they have.

Does anybody want to do any testing? It would help me to make sure everything is working properly. It would involve just making whatever missions you like, trying out some of the features and feeding back to me about usability/documentation issues and bugs that you find.

Small update, nothing to download yet. I'm trying something new, namely a new MP gamemode. Not even sure if it will work yet, but I have a brief plan scribbled down on paper and I've made a start at implementing it. Will post back here when I have some more info, probably within a day or so.

I'll happily test anything you come up with Megadroid. :)

MP Gamemode sounds great :P
