At this level of models (less than 25k) im inclined to agree with dom. Now if the poly counts were higher then it prolly would be the polygons but its not really a big deal when most of your models are less the 5k polygons.

The reason its the Borg textures that lag a system is because Borg stuff tends to use multiple textures per object. There are a few other objects in the game that do this too but none of them go to the same extent that the Borg do.

Yep, Polygones are not an isse at all for Fleet Operations. Textures are neither (at least not directly). There is an ancient left over from Armada2 which reduces performance with the number of meshes in a model. That's the issue with the current Borg, especially when they blow up.

Should be fixed somewhere on the long run :sweatdrop:

Just replace the current rendering engine with something like OpenGL or Direct X if that is the case.

sure, go for it... lets see how long it takes  you...

the current engine already uses direct x i think. I heard about d3d8.

Changing things about graphics isnt easy i'd think

@optec, could a temporary workaround be to force the game to load the borg textures (or meshes, or whatever causes the brief hang) before the game starts, so loading time goes up, but the game doesnt freeze when u first look at borg lol

Fleet Operations is already a directX engine...
Armada2 uses a lot of software rasterization.

Yep, similar workarounds are currently investigated ^-^

:woot:

i should probably buy myself a computer with a graphics card, that would be the best solution.

I kinda got attached to the graviton torp being a box  , can it stay that way for me, and be default for everyone, i like the idea of firing boxes at unassimilated species. :D

Get a graphics card with at least 48 stream processors.

I'd rather have 47 (badum-ch)

i wont be getting any number of streamer thingies anytime soon as i dont have enough resources.

How about you try this thing?  It has the number of stream processors I specified and for a nice low price.  Of course, the more stream processors, the better.

i'm not in usa

that card was pci-e, cant use it, dont have pci-e slot. I have the older slot. And that is on a budget pc with a crappy chipset.

I use my laptop for fo, and laptops are hard to expand, even if there was a nice place for a card to go, i'm already close to overheating because my graphics chip is clocked higher than usual.

There are still a few new AGP cards kicking around, if you're still on PCI though, you're pretty much out of luck.

Laptops aren't really expandable, especially when it comes to graphics which are usually hard wired to the motherboard and thus can't just be swapped.
