The Alliance's need some work, because they are essentially just trying to play 3 races at once. If you've never played Command and Conquer Generals: Zero Hour, then General Leang is sort of the final boss for the Challenge mode, who essentially takes the best unit equivalents from the 3 factions and molds them into 1. This would translate to FO by having a single builder unit and it having the ability to build stations from all 3 factions. Have 1 basic shipyard, 1 intermediate shipyard and 1 Advanced shipyard, each able to produce ships from all 3 factions. But, handpick the ones that can be produced, i'd say 3 or 4 from each faction, with the exception of the Advanced, where i'd say 1, maybe 2 each.
I know it'll be difficult, but it'll not only make them more streamlined, it'll also give a reason to play the 3 base races as well, to get access to more stuff.
I really have no plans to change that at all. If you want to mod it for your own personal usage and have that, go ahead. but that's not something that will be changed in future releases.

Can't argue with that.
I don't believe romulans, klingons and feds shared these kinds of things together, so to me that would be a little odd. They had an alliance throughout the war but remained all separate powers.

will all ships have the icons explaining weapons and abilities? it'd be good to see what is good for what on the breen and cardies as well as some of the other ships added.

Basically Armada 1 had different starting modes you could select. Minimal, which was just a construction ship, normal, which was some construction ships, a starbase, a scout etc, and superside, which was one construction ship of each race.

I know, but as I said, it streamlines the gameplay and makes this faction seem more unique, as well as better balanced, so they aren't just a superside.
Also, if we are going by the whole "They wouldn't share those kinds of things" part, then, although the Cardassians and Dominion shared bases next to each other, the Federation Alliance wouldn't have built bases anywhere near each other. Romulans wouldn't dare put anything even closely resembling a military secret within the same sector as their "Allies" unless they knew they could kill everyone, should the need arise.
At this point, canonicity is already out the window, so may as well make them more unique. Granted, that's just my opinion, and Squire James has already said that he'd prefer it not to change, so you can't please everyone.

I don't know yet. The mod is kind of standing still right now. Bam has kind of disappeared now and last heard he was rather busy with things. I don't know if he was planning on making those changes or I would have to make them once he sends me his work. I tried to change tool tips before without much success and the game just crashed.

I totally understand what you are saying. I just really don't feel like making that change. Like you said I can't please everyone. I have heard some criticizes of my mod, some I agree with, some I don't. For example normal starting resources will be put back to make multiplayer more interesting.

hey I'll just be happy when the update drops and hopefully ships will have more info on their individual displays.

Most of the ships already have information displayed. To make the game balanced I basically copied and paste the odf files of other races onto the ships of the Breen and Cardassians.
So for example I took maybe the nova class and copied those files and then just made minor adjustments to things. So if the cardassian ship says its weapons are 23 and the hull is 45, then it is exactly that compared to its counterpart. Does that make sense. What exactly do you want changed on the tooltips that isn't already there?

oh didn't realise cause well the cardy stuff just doesn't display anything at all so at times it's hard to tell where the upgrades are going with veterancy, also hotkeys for cardy breen and dominion stuff should likely be mixed up so they work a bit better. clicking is rather slow in comparison and when the borg are arriving with like a tonne of cubes... speed matters.

You might be referring to the stations? As far as I know all the ships at least have most accurate tooltips, minus any special weapons I added to them. But I will go and take a look later tonight.

Whew. I finally read through the entire thread. I've been meaning to look into this since you guys were posting in March, but I was dead at the time.
I really like those Cardassian models, especially DS9. Did the author host them online somewhere? I actually have a complete "roadmap" on my computer with all of the steps/notes/tools needed to add the Cardassian faction to Tryptic's Mod, just waiting for the day that somebody works on it
This Dominion War mod isn't balanced for multiplayer, certainly, but you've clearly put an incredible amount of work into it. I can show you how to modify tooltips if you like, but you might regret it. Tooltips are my least favorite part of FleetOps modding
Unfortunately they're also the first thing players look at when there's new content.
Anyway, I've been inspired to work on Tryptic's Mod for a while again. Would it be alright with you if I post some stuff on your Modding Fleet Ops facebook page?
