Imagine being on a Federation star ship and witnessing a battle between a non-Federation vessel and a Borg cube. The other vessel fires a couple of torpedoes at the cube, destroying it instantly, and suddenly, all of the command functions on your ship lock-out and there's a massive shockwave followed by huge ruptures in subspace. Guess what type of torpedoes were fired at the cube.

I know it's overpowered. But doesn't it make since that a faction would try to build such a weapon? There's hardly anything that can counter it except to destroy the unit before the weapon is fired.

it makes no sense at all. because:

[*]omega is unpredicatable
[*]the explosions from omega are huge and could very well cause collateral damage
[*]the explosions from omega destroy subspace, making warp travel (and probably anything else that requires subspace) impossible on a quadrant wide scale

and in game balancing, such a stupidly overpowered weapon is pointless.

All a torpedo would need is one molecule to destroy an entire fleet. I'm sure that wouldn't cause damage on a quadrant-wide scale. Plus, it wouldn't destroy every subspace domain since communication between ships are still possible even inside areas affected by the molecule. Just scan as many subspace domains as possible and you'll find at least one that is unaffected.

actually all that was said was that it destroys subspace. not that it destroys some of subspace. even ma says its unknown whether subspace communication still works.
but definitely warp drive is not possible. and all 5 races in fleetops like warp travel and want to use it.
at least it would end warpins

Wouldn't it make more sense to harness it for practically limitless energy instead of using it in a one shot torpedo?

That's what the Tereanan Omega Generator will do in the Tereanan Empire mod if you pick the Perimeter Guard avatar. At least I'll try to get that in with a simulated risk of the generator self-destructing! Balancing a weapon though would be a tad bit difficult.
Warp-ins would definitely suffer from such a use. Especially if something went wrong.

Omega particles are already in use on the Tavara.

@ TCR: I can see Omega Particles being the base for some kind of Romulan Weapon. Maybe try coming up with something that's not quite so difficult to balance like "destroys a cube in one shot"?
Aim for something like "a toggle ability that the Tavara (the ship powered by an Omega) can use to increase the firing rate of it's weapons, but that begins to drain hull integrity (hp) and will randomly disable a subsystem for a few seconds".
That's inherently more balanceable and won't draw such reactions from guys like Myles

Interesting idea. I like it. I know a good counter for that though. Computer override and trigger an overload in the Omega containment field on that vessel. Then get out in a transwarp conduit before the ship explodes.
