to add hps in max it aint too hard (also easier to rotate as u can see its direction. but yh there is no importer and ms3d can not export its joints info for 3dmax although texture co-ordinates remain

Ok, I think I have added the bump map, but would some1 with max beable to check my work if I send you the model and texture files. Just to make sure all the settings are correct as when I put the ship ingame the texture colours are wrong :(

as long as its 3dmax5 or older newer versions may not be able to load in the required 3dmax

Using max 5. Loaded the 3ds model, added the texture files (diffuse, self illuminate and bump), then following the BBOM added hp's (am I right in just adding these as points then the program will link them? or do I need to select 'hardpoints' before adding a new point like hp01?). Also does mas add the mesh nodes or do I do it somehow?

Exported the model and the saucer is purple ish and the other textures arnt right. Must be a setting I missed.

3dmax auto adds the mesh points and im not sure if hp's need to be linked could try without

Do u have max? If so could I send the model so u can check it over? This is my 1st time with max and I must have done somethin wrong or missed something.

I cant see how to. Also, when I export to 3ds the texture files get renamed :(

send it as a link from megaupload or something.  thats what I would do.

ok, now this is happening...... the black only turns up on export to sod.

Honestly, If I were you I would post about this on msfc.  You will get alot more help alot faster there(no offense Tyler :blush:) because there are many experienced modelers active every day.

To me, it looks like a material setting error, however I think somebody said the shadow effect was something else on msfc.
