You know ...

When they have the same name, that means you can only have ONE.

So get the RIGHT one and don't delete it, you [I love you too - adult].

Get it HERE

or HERE

Look at the name on the .rar file.  It will say Rain V1.1.

Be an adult :D.

EDIT:  I mean seriously ... I keep hearing people complain about not having the right version, then when I ask if the link is broken they go "I don't know, I haven't checked".  They 50% of the people complaining haven't even bothered to dl it from the forums OR from Astrometrics.

I took a lot of time to set up TWO DIFFERENT PAGES on TWO DIFFERENT websites just so that you people can have as much ease as possible in getting the new map to play on.  Be a fucking grown-up and PICK ONE .

  EDIT (AGAIN):

You're welcome not to PLAY on my maps if it's too much trouble for you :woot:

In fact it's up to the player to manage his bzn. But it's also true that there have been lots of occasions where the host couldn't launch because of different map versions. Maybe Doca can do something about that?
Please don't flame around Boggz even if you think it's funny. Others might react sensitive.

Who's flaming?

Telling him to be a fucking adult is just my frustration at people are flat out refuse to do any work to get something they want.  Arash (and he knows this) does this every time I update a map.  I've explained to him over and over how to put the new map in the .bzn.

If a game can't start because a player has an old version, it's a simple matter of the player backing out of the game and either:

A. Deleting the old map manually and dl'ing it in game from the host

B. Downloading the new one from EITHER of the two places they exist and simply placing them in the bzn folder.

If I need to put instructions up on both of those pages I will, but I prefer to have my new/updated maps overwrite the old ones so that there are no games played with the old maps that are unbalanced.  The fact that he chose to bring this up in such a nasty manner doesn't sit well with me after I've gone to lots of trouble to make and update these maps AND maintain two separate places from which a person can DL them.

Burns the Boggz up it does!  I'm not a Zen master like Optec is.

I've tried my best to keep my maps synced (actually, I just recently finished a total sync) and I have a system in place for updates.

a. In essense, you're first port of call will be the map pack; of which there are three. As long as you know which pack you've got and which update you're on then it should be easy to work out who's out of date.

b. Inevitably I may end up making minor adjustments to one or two maps, which don't require a complete redo of their parent map pack/s. If this occurs then you go with the map with the latest date stamp. I've listed all maps on Astro, with their latest build and date and I make sure to highlight these updates with the respective map pack.

c. In Fleet Ops, the version number will show in your maps list. I keep the same convention as Boggz on this; where updates to a given map will all have the same file name but different ingame versions. This way, all you have to do is extract the newer version into you main FO directory and it'll automatically sort you out.

Of course, I cannot vouch for other map makers, as there are no solidified version conventions between fellow map makers; we tend to have our own systems in place :). Just make sure you visit Astro often, to make sure you have the latest versions.

For the record, Boggz is very good at syncing his Astro page to the forums :)

no, I'm saying that maybe if everyone would stop naming the same map the same thing over again this confusion wouldn't have started in the first place. all i ask for is a simple 2/3/4 next to the map to reduce the amount of confusion when people host maps - seeing that the host map doesn't over-write on my updated version. Also  just by adding an extra letter or number next to the map name it makes it a totally new map, so the map is downloadable though the game and more organized, instead of having a an unorganized and different amounts of the same map...

i also know how to put maps into bzn folder...

the only reason i was frustrated and made this topic is because hosts don't have the newer map version. bogzie i did not ment this post to be about you, this post is about everyone who has maps and edits with same name in fleetops...

Honestly when I use CAPS it's not because I'm angry it's because I'm trying to make IT CLEAR THAT IT'S THE POINT I WANT YOU TO TAKE NOTE OF .

If it were because I were angry it'd look like OMFGWOWZORSYOU'REJOKINGLOLLERSAURUSREXROFLCOPTER

  :woot:

I do get annoyed easily.  I'm never one to deny that.  I also take threads like these as a bit of a personal thing, which I think anyone else besides Optec might do.  Optec is a Buddhist Knight and can somehow listen to people bitch and complain about his amazing mod and brush it off.  I, however, am not always so Zen and get annoyed when people continually manage to ignore the easy path and then bitch about how the hard path is too hard.

  Drives me nuts.

As long as you download the new one and overwrite the old, this won't cause a problem.

I don't want my maps to be that way.  I only want 1 name.  As long as the host Dl's the new version online and overwrites the old this won't be a problem.

Also  just by adding an extra letter or number next to the map name it makes it a totally new map, so the map is downloadable though the game and more organized, instead of having a an unorganized and different amounts of the same map...

Look I totally get what you're saying.  I"m saying that I don't WANT to add extra letters or numbers because I don't like the maps looking that way.  ALSO - it means that people will end up with like 5 versions of the same map (v1.0, v1.1, v1.2 blah blah ...) and I don't WANT that ... does that make sense?  I don't want people to have the option of playing an old map because 95% of the changes I make are balance changes.  People don't keep 3.0.7 or 3.1.0 FO around ... they ONLY PLAY THE NEW ONE.  I find it MORE disorganized to have multiple "versions" with different names floating around the webs.  The .RAR's all are identified as a version so that you can see what version you are DL'ing.  That should be more than enough to prevent confusion.

the only reason i was frustrated and made this topic is because hosts don't have the newer map version. bogzie i did not ment this post to be about you, this post is about everyone who has maps and edits with same name in fleetops...

So because some host doesn't have a newer map version you want me to completely change the way I do things?

How about you just tell the host: "hey, looks like you have an old version.  Go grab the new one online real quick and re-host"?

How about you do some of the work instead of asking me to change the system I've set up?

Actually, that is a valid point. If the hosts map files are not upto date then the game will want everyone to downgrade.

However Boggz and I (and I'm sure other map makers too) don't want to change the bzn file name since it does not encourage people to upgrade to the latest versions. We'd rather phase out previous versions, for the reasons mentioned above.

With my maps, I put my version in the map listing as well as on the rar file archive name. Does that help to alleviate the issue or not so much? That is my partial solution to the issue. I know that Boggz does not like this solution though which is fair enough.

Just keep you files upto date and encourage others to do the same :)

Uff, you are SO much better at keeping your calm than I am :D.

Boggz is really the most patient, kind, and understanding person when he's acting, he assures you :D.  It's just that, with things like this in video games, he gets a little .... touchy when things like this come up over and over.
