ok ive managed that but it still says eight players with no start position for the eighth player? when i double click to open the start position box what do i need to edit to remove the player?

Press Ctrl+R, go over to Starting Positions and make sure any unused ones are set to 'Empty' type.

Have done this, and only deleted one space, CTRL R and made the one place empty however several plces get deleted making the map a 4 player?

If you only deleted 1 place, there should be only 1 place free. Which position did you set to enpty?

i have tried on several maps nw, i removed the player 1 position and when i tried to play the map it said there were no playable places?

Try setting only the last usable place as Empty, there's a drop-down menu.

i think i have worked this out, i removed player five, and all after four had disappeared? could this be it?
