Here's what you do:
After the map is done go to the upper right corner of the map, zoom all the way in, and take a screenshot (with the UI present, use alt-p). Then open that screenshot in you editor of choice and crop it precisely down to only the minimap then resize it to 160X160. Save it as [mapname].bmp and include it with your other map files. There you go!

I haven't played online MP yet but I'd imagine that is true. Nebula's tend to cause significant performance losses in large numbers so they should be used sparingly to ensure that people get the most effect for the least performance drain.

Indeed, small nebulas can be better. Big ones (and loads of them) mess up cloaking animation and cause all sorts of weird problems with weapon fire disappearing. Plusm small ones can be more tactically interesting,... hey, I didn't know 3 TacCubes could fit in that 8 by 8 cell!  :whistling:

Okay guys... here is a 1 vs 1 map that is actually quite good. Thanks for the tips of making things more Multiplayer friendly... this should be a bit better on MP games. If you like the map, I welcome comments. For those that like to complain of any problems... go easy, I'm still a FO freshman.  :innocent:

this is like a survivalmode map..  cause i got owned in like 10 minutes  .. cant believe someone can expand fast enough to stop this invasion of ships tho. but it was hella fun :)
the design of the map is really cool. plus i like the idea of wormholes inside of nebulas

Okay guys. I'm comming out with some more maps soon. And I can say without exageration that they are going to be great for multiplayer! Because I have tested them. Now, I need some suggestions for 1 other map. I can give the choice of one of these types:

- "Instant Struggle"
- "Blaze of Rage"
- "Warfare"
- "Maze"
- "Open Field"

Descriptions:

Instant Struggle means there be NPC vessels ithin your area that can attack you at any time in early game.

Blaze of Rage means a map with lots of resources, but heavy NPC defenses meaning you'll need powerful fleets to punch through.

Warfare is similar to the Blaze of rage but instead of NPC, there are nebulas allowing several tactical advantages.

Maze is self explanitory, means that there would be narrow paths leading to the other side.

Open Field means that it is an open map with no walls or large barriers, occasional nebulas, and plenty of resource.

Post your choices and I'll make a map based off of the majority. :D

NPC is generally bad for multiplayer games. I'd rather fight off my human opponent than a mindless, and at best, an AI that blindly chooses which player to attack.  :whistling:

Please Spell Open Field correctly though (isn't their a map already named this in FO... I think it is called Open Fields. Just saying this, as it might get confusing)  :sweatdrop:

Fixed... but that is not going to be the name. it is the type I'm refering.

Then I guess 'Warfare' and 'Open Field' would be my choice :) ... though having more scattered resources would be better for combat in my opinion.

Is there only a couple of people who like my maps at all? :( I expected the maps to be more popular. What happened to the dozens of downloads I used to get? Did I really become a horrible mapper? I tried so hard on these! :crybaby:
