was wondering if there was a replacement for the phalanx model?  its a good model but those nacelles just bug the hell out of me.  no offense to the author.  :)  preferably one with nacelles that are more in line with the other ships.

on a side note i absolutely love the new teutoburg class model.  its my second favorite starship model after the eximus class in bridge commander.  if i could figure it out i would consider just swapping that odf for the phalanx since i only use two of them at a time anyways as opposed to 8 phalanx ships.

Yeap, it will be revamped.  It's one of the high priority tasks, so it will be done sooner rather than later. ^-^

I released a mod over on MSFC to replace the outdated phalanx model with abetter one that was made by michael Kelly a while back.

That's the Michael Kelly model, and I don't see the similarity. Doesn't look like a simple retexture to me.

i guess the thingies holding up the nacelles are different but the rest looks the same minus the textures.  its the long skinny nacelles that look out of place.  they look more like excelsior era nacelles.  not the more swept back angular nacelles on TNG era ships.  its not a huge priority since they are changing it coming up soon.  i can wait.  :)

Not all TNG-era ships have swpt-back nacelles, very few do that.

not the things holding up the nacelles......whatever you would call them "nacelle pylons" i guess,  the actual nacelles themselves.  they tend to be fatter on one end and get skinnier towards the other end.  the galaxy starts off skinner and gets fatter and the sovereign starts of fat and gets skinnier as it goes back.  dont know why but  i always hated excelsiors nacelles.  i preferred the constitution refit and miranda class nacelles to the excelsiors.  first time  i saw the excelsiors nacelles i thought the klingons were gonna love those nice huge targets to disable along with that super skinny structure connecting them to the main hull.  :)

my fave nacelles are defiants cause they are right next to the ship and not connected by some flimsy looking support structure.  thats why i like the teutoburgs as well they look a bit meatier than some other ships.

that was one thing that always bothered me about the feds, the nacelles. they are easy targets, both the nacelle and the pylon.

then you look at the other races, their nacelles are easy to hit too, but not the pylons, they are usually stronger looking.

then you look at brels/defiants, and their engines are harder to hit. which fits with them being all combat ships.

guess you could explain it by saying that having nacelles sticking out from the ship saves fuel. and the defiant uses fuel less efficiently.

The (uncited) explanation on Memory Alpha is that it's a radiation thing, keeping it away from the crew and ship systems.

poor sisko on the defiant then :(

poor martok on his bop :(

poor mrs sisko (yates) on her freighter :(

poor people on the remore class :(

that explanation would work great if we didnt have examples of ships that had the warp engines not on sticks.

Star Trek also has anti-radiation shots that protect against everything, from radiation to vampire bites. The lack of pylons doesn't mean it doesn't happen, just that they fixed it for those ships. Or had magic flu shots...

so why not fix it for other ships? the klingons would love to have their vorchas have less easy targets to shoot.

I doubt the Klingons really care about easy targets, this is a race who charge at phaser-weilding enemies with blades...

but victory is important for them. they do have strategists, and if they could build a ship without a weakness they would.

the whole bringing a knife to a phaser fight was seriously stupid, action film rubbish. ds9 should have had transporter inhibitors or security guys to stop ops being beamed into.
