I captured a borg constructor!!!

Which race do you like most? What do you like - what you don't like? Discuss it here.

I think that self destruct could have it's uses. I'm really tired of simply leaving ships to die when their engines go down. It's especially annoying when a veteran loses its engines and you don't have a good way of repairing it or freeing it's veteran slots.

Self destruct is meant to be a last resort attempt at preventing capture due to Life support failure (and boarding, as the movies show). It has been discussed before, but many here are very closed-minded about things like this.

The big reason it's rejected is that on high autonomy, it's the reaction speed of the computer.  Suddenly, capture ships are worthless, because the victim will always explode before that last beam.

The computer is also set to use the ram and doesn't always, this is no different to that. Both also use weapons systems, remember what disabling those does? The inherent delay makes it easy for a player to negate if quick. I also don't recall any AI self destructs in stock, or any of the AI ships I gave it to in FO (every Federation ship and rank and not one boom? Your logic isn't supported by the AI, apparently...).

They just don't like the idea of other players sometimes being able to prevent capture.

It's already hard enough to capture - there should be some other negative associated with self-destructing your own vessels. Tractor beam 'till then will be quite dandy to help prevent capture :)

That can be sorted by minor damage (Offensive value around a Venture Class level) at short range to add a risk of hurting your own ships without making it into a viable suicide ship. A Special Energy cost could also be a good addition to the active Weapon system requirement.

So how do you balance it against the Borg then? Not really a fair trade unless you get penalized in some other manner.

Just give them a stronger screen shake than a normal blast...

How does that give it balance - you'd essentially be crippling any sort of assimilation weaponry.  :sweatdrop:

Lol, I know this is a bit random, but I just remembered how I like to repay some players who like to ram. When im borg, I assimilate the bug then go ram their constructor!! HA! Payback feels good!  Muhahahahahaha!!!!

How's it crippling? It relies entirely on how fast the boarder and target are and if they can pay attention when a large number are around. Don't forget the weapons system...

Multiple Assmilators leave very little time to select a ship to set it.

What are you calling 'multiple'?

And are you forgetting Holding Beam (which takes forever to assimilate anything)?

Usually, multple Assimilators means more than 1 Assimilator... How many ships d the Borg have caled 'Assimilator'? (Class, not class varients).

Assimilators don't have the glorified Tractor beams.

No, but on anything worth assimilating as more than a 'hey, that was funny' it will drain the entire power supply of one assimilator.  So for it to be too fast to react to, we're talking what...8 of them?

Oh well lets say you are assimilating a dreadnaught. You can wait till about 50 crew members and then boom! I do really hate assimilators but come on! If you dont want him to capture that ship start beaming troops from the rest of your fleet as soon as he starts assimilating. Retreat that ship and and send it to the yards to recrew! Thats how you counter assimilaters! Self destruct isnt hard enough to micromanage on a ship with more then 20 people. There would be no more point in building assimilators with self destruct.
