Also, ask funny if he's available to do a "footage game". It usually involves infinite resources and free tech, and then he will take footage of certain ships attacking. This is usually pretty fast with just a few players and team speak.

You know, this seems like a great idea, but why not put in an in-game tutorial? Start them off easy with only one research station, and the shipyard, and three types of warships, and then ramp it up. It would be good if it could teach the basics of special weapons and counters and stuff, too.
Personally, I'd find something custom made much more interesting. And why not also narrate it with voice? (but also have text)

Well, an ingame tutorial would be great!
But it can't even begin to happen until MMM is ready, and it would be one more thing the devs would have to do.
The other issue is that Fleet Ops is always changing each patch, so it could easily become out of date. The videos will be hard enough to keep updated. An ingame tutorial more so.
These videos will show you the basics. Remember that the other component is that these videos will help advertise Fleet Operations in an attractive way, while giving them an idea of what to expect for game mechanics.

If someone wants to give me a script or two I can knock up an in-game tutorial with MMM in its current state. It's usable, just not well documented (which I am working on).

How long do these videos need to be?

The videos we intend to produce will about around 10 minutes in length for each race. It can go up to 15 minutes, which is the maximum length of time youtube will allow for a video. Right now things are progressing slowly because everyone is kind of busy. Also, we probably won't release anything until the next patch, since Optec has mentioned all the big changes in his recent post.

You and me need to talk.

I'm interested in helping work on either an ingame-tutorial or an online guide, but I don't have enough free time to do anything but provide the clips you asked for.
A few questions:
Does it absolutely HAVE to be highest anti-aliasing? At 720 resolution you can't really tell, and nobody I've talked to has been able to fraps FO with anti-aliasing on. My rig certainly can't handle it.
Maybe I'll try recording short clips with and without, and let you decide. Do you want links in this thread or somewhere else?

Awesome Tryptic!
I haven't been able to use anti aliasing either, so just get it the best quality that you can. One thing I should do soon is get a video example of the kinds of things we need, so that you can see and go "ah!"
For now, hopefully the way I've described it will work, but you can create "samples" kind of like you were suggesting so we can discuss the kind of footage we want in more detail.
Also, links to this thread are perfect! Then funny can download the video from youtube and put it in his video. Seriously, the more people we have working on this, the better it will be and the faster it will come out. So I appreciate anyone who wants to help with this. The more community oriented this project is, the better it will turn out.

Here's a little something to get your creative juices flowing.
Oh I hear Myles is gonna host instead of Mal. Will be fixed for the next preview!
