It's not exactly the computer. It's the video card. Some monster tandem SLI with huge graphical processing power and a lot of video memory will do more than the best CPU filled to capacity with the fastest system ram.

It had a very powerful graphics card. In fact, it had two of them... or whatever that fancy duo card stuff is. I can't recall any of the stats, just a lot of "SLI" and "dual" -this and "dual" -that  . Quite pricy too as I recall - and it did very nicely with DoW II (running it on max everything)  :sweatdrop:

I assume you were doing an instant action thing; if it were online or over a network then it might be network lag. Was the computer doing anything else particularly things which were either processor or disk read/write intensive? If yes, that might account for part of it. I find that some programs, especially graphics oriented ones, can slow to a crawl if there is high disk activity because data reads/writes to the swap file, that is virtual memory, are delayed. Of course it is also possible that the engine does have its limits. I suppose this is one of the pros of redoing the engine (even though the devs have said they don't want to). The fact is that the existing Armada 2 engine is reaching its limits; at some point it will be more efficient and effective to create a new engine, it's just a matter of when.

As far as I recall, it was just A2 running - I seem to remember that it's been said before that it isn't the high poly models that are to blame, just the inefficiency of the engine. Just for the same reason that Borg explosions cause lag on almost every computer: even really really powerful ones. Incidentally, the Devs are working on making 2010 a year of vast improvements for the A2 engine, so I'm sure we'll see needed system resources go down and cool graphics go up  :D

yeas, as I said.  The models are lower poly because the devs want to create the least amount of lag. Sure you can add high ploy models to the game, but if you plan on having actual fleet battles :whistling:, the engine can'not handle all the ships and will either lagg, or crash, depending on your machine.
