well, i think this are 2 different methodes to fly transwarp.. you should keep in mind that the term transwarp is not linked to a technology but to speed. Transwarp means traveling faster then the normal warp scala allows - if you remember that the USS Excelsior was ment to fly transwarp, too

Borg transwarp is not faster than the warp scale allows. It is much faster than normal warp ships are, because it uses a completely different method of travel.

But Warp 10 still equals indefinite velocity, the only episode showing reaching the unreachable Warp 10 is the one in which Tom Paris builds his "transwarp" shuttle. What should be mentioned is, that most Star Trek technology freaks think that the episode is complete nonsense.

However, those extremely high velocities used by the borg, Q and whoever are not Warp 10, but below. The term transwarp is Ok if you understand it as "much faster than our ship can go". But it's not > Warp 10.

Again a link to a very good site discussing almost everything concerning Treknology and starships:

first of all i remeber a tos epsiode where a take a probe on and it controls the ship and makes it go to warp 15 and the ship nearley goes bang. and also if i remember transwarp is not warp it's tecno that folds space and lets you jump it

The Warp scale has been redefined somewhat between 2295 and 2350.

(In fact, Roddenberry wanted it to be changed, when TNG started.)

That's what I meant:

[...] because it uses a completely different method of travel.

Transwarp = Achieving speeds unatanable (*curently) with normal warp but not going asfar to incorperating it as slipstream/quantum slipstream or coaxial warp ect.

the warp 15 was on the cochrine warp scale not the refined warp scale for tng, that after warp 9.9 goes up exponentialy and could very well have an infinate number of 9's after 9.9 but that would thus far result in infinate speed as warp 10. enterprise apaerently rely's on the cochrine scale although since enterprise has already killed the timeline it could very well use the tng refiened scale.

Coaxial warp = warp that folds space

The voyager episode "Transwarp" i belive where Tom took the shutle to warp 10 is technicaly imposible and probably the biggest eror made in voyager but as i see it what was done was done and up above i stated that transwarp is a term used for achiving speeds unatanable with normal warp.

The excelsior transwarp didnt work since scotty sabotaged it but the technowledgy is now a part of normal warp since that only extended the warp capabilities of the normal warp drive but since they can go past what was estimated by the excelsior transwarp using enhancements onm this technowledgy, and others.

*a prime example of this is the excelsior transwarp.

I totally agree with cts006 as he describes exactly what I meant. :D

My only complaint: It's Cochrane, not Cochrine. ;)

It is.

Before, it was: Please, I'm begging...

Now it is: Warp: Please, I'm begging...

Much of a difference! B)
