Maybe not a lot lower, Marines are specially trained for things like that, so they'd be better than your average security officer and if Starfleet marines are as well trained as the MACO's, they could probably rival any Klingons.

I doubt they'd risk their lives stealing the ship, more likely have their spies steal the plans.

they stole the prommie, i like the way that the romulan boarding party special is only for the best ship, only the most important ships are captured, so capturing doesnt happen often. so the romulan boarding should be rare. as it is now

I forgot about the Prometheus, they probably only went for that because there was about 4 crew and they couldn't get to the plans.

4 people were trained to operate all the systems, but we can assume there was a crew of at least 80 who were just there to help who had limited knowledge.

i bet the romulans used their top secret special ops teams, like the tavara's boarding teams. it fits well for the rommies.

According to the show, it was so heavily classified that those 4 were the only people in the fleet who knew how to use it. Nothing to imply more. Since an Oberth Class can be run by as little as 5 people, the heavily automated Prometheus run by 4 people is actually quite a reasonable prospect.

Argh.

The point of the thread is NOT making a troopship for the Federation. It's calling attention to try to fix what I perceive as serious flaws that greatly hamper the role of the two current troopship designs.

If you fedrats want to go ship capturing, do what I do, pile 5-6 (or more, if you get lucky with the warpins) galaxies in one fleet, and you will be able to capture even a Borg constructor. 5-6 galaxies do a better job than 10 Vutpa's. That says something about how bad are current troopships at their supposed job.

2 Tavaras can capture a Borg builder without even bothering to decloak or use the special, just need time. I've done it. Several times. And they are NOT troopships.

Why bother with waiting for valuable Galaxies?  Use Akiras ... cheap, spammable, good crew compliments ... NOT a rare Warp-in.

Excels are too low on crew to use for boarding.

The 350 crew in a Galaxy is decent for that.

I guess so, but if you want to spam, and insure that your numbers will suffice.  :whistling:  the Excelcior is ya' lady
