Do you really think I don't know that :D

I still have the right to mention the idea don't I?  I know they don't want to, so lets think of another ship...

maybe the avalon? it already must have a large number of crew inorder to launch fighters.  what about a mixed tech one that has a boarding party instead of fighters?

The Avalon would be a great idea if there weren't the fact that she is an avatar-unit. Avatar-units are not available for mixed-tech.

What about a Nebula varient, then? It's got almost as much space as a Galaxy and is common enough as a Warp-In to be included in a few fleets, but cannot be spammed.

i could deal with that.  instead of the sensor pod, it could have a high power tractor beam, or something to that respect.

or multiple transporter rooms in the pod to increase boarding rate. or both

my only issue is it doesnt seem a fed style.

The only things that aren't 'Fed style' are things that could be considered crimes of war, taking control of enemy ships doesn't fall under that category. If it did, their mixed-tech would be a bit iffy.

taking control of ships isnt illegal, but the feds dont seem very bothered with capturing ships, they're not warriors and they would probably just give back any ships they took. i just cant imagine the feds capturing ships

We already know they had marines, and they borded ships many times with hostile intent, so whats to say that they don't keep the ships after?  And really why not if they are at war in A2?

The Klingons, Romulans and Dominion didn't bother taking ships often; 1 time for the Dominion (Defiant, Starfleet gave them DS9) and the Klingons only went for DS9 once. Even the Borg rarely seem to bother with ships unless needed, mostly planets.

Why would they give the ship back? Sounds like a good way to tell the people who died taking it that their sacrifice means nothing to Starfleet. They are more likely to scrap it after it has no more use to them, unless it is their allies ship that they got back.

Taking ships is a fair and valid tactic, especially in a proper conflict.

taking ships is a valid tacitic in war. but the feds are anti violence, they are passive people, they only fight when necessary, in defense. they prefer sensors to torps and scientists to marines. the feds would not use boarding as a normal tactic, only for rare exceptional cases where its deemed necessary. a troopship implies that starfleet regularly engages in the tactic of capturing enemy ships. which they wouldnt. that makes the feds silly, because boarding and capturing is great to hurt your enemy, its just not fed.

the borg love nomming ships, they have huge space inside their ships to hold captured enemy ships. the queen wanted to take that little ship in dark frontier, there werre ships in the cube that had icheb and the kids. the borg love taking ships. they love taking planets too. they love taking all everything. all our base will belong to them.

So blowing up ships and mercilessly masacring hundreds is fine, but taking ships and prisoners while killing less is a sin? Strange priorities...

I know what Starfleet likes and dislikes, but what they prefere is irrelivent to war, where it is kill or be killed. The Federation likes peace, but are still humans capable of everything real-life ones are. Almost all other races in it can be just as bad.

What having troopships has implies they have ships designed to transport large groups of people, which they do. They're called Transports. A Troopship is a transport that has marines aboard instead of colonists or refugees.

thats one type of troopship, but in fo all troopships are combat troopships, not just freighters or transports full of marines. starfleet wouldnt operate them in my opinion

the federation is built on its values, starfleet captains have regularly demonstrated that they will sacrifice their lives rather than their values. starfleet will blow up ships as a last resort, preferring to disable ships when possible, in war, starfleet shoots to kill of course.

i cant imagine starfleet operating combat troop ships designed solely to capture enemy ships. they only have one real battle oriented ship, the defiant class, all others are peaceful ships that are armed for defensive purposes.

in war starfleet MIGHT use large ships to capture important targets, but not random targets i dont believe. and i dont think starfleet would ever design a troopship like the vutpa or war frigate.

my point is that starfleet's capturing abilities in game are perfect as they are, to capture you use normal starfleet ships that just happen to have large crews. a dedicated troopship would not fit.

i do agree that starfleet is too passive, too timid, and that boarding would be a really good thing to do when possible. but we cant redefine the feds at our whim. it would change the nature of the feds.

The current Troopships are all combat because they are Klingon/Dominion standard ships. Specialized Freighters with through-shield transporters or Galaxy/Nebula varients would work for Starfleet because Starfleet wouldn't lower most of their combat ships shields in battle, which the current way would need (not exactly perfect if you have to risk sacrifcing half a fleet to take a ship).

We don't need to change the Federation, DS9 already made them more realistic.

a galaxy or nebula refitted a couple extra transporter rooms may be good, to capture occasional targets of high importance. i would give them a very low cap of around 1-3. and the capturing ability would be a lot lower than dominion/klingon.

What about the Rommies? I'm sure they'd capture enemy ships so that they could improve their ships to be effective counters to enemy vessels.
