We are currently working on the first steps of our global borg redo for v3. Yep, in some kind there will me modular elements in these new borg, also they will be quite different from what you are used to. We will introduce the first step of your event-based trigger system in v3 which grants a wide arsenal of possibilities and some of these new features will used in the borg redo. (of course they are not the only ones who will use these features. many of the new special effects or the Dominion Hyperspace Artillery for example are also the result of the trigger system)
Well enough know-how chat  The new borg should be much more "borgy" in booth starbase and starship construction (if you can find a different there).  - Optec

1) So what exacty is this new trigger system?
2) What does it do?
3) How is it used?
4) How did you get that to work (guessing its top secret but its worth a try ^_^)

1) A very simple script-like odf extension...
2) ... to create new effects ...
3) ... like many of the new special weapons or special effects.
4) Yep, it's an Fleet Operations only feature which won't work in Armada2 and requires the Fleet Operations launcher to run

Future extensions of this system will include basic triggers for dynamic map making, Non-playable races, more special weapons, graphical effects and map events and much more ^_^ But we cant do everything at once

In a past news post you can already find an example: the Hyperspace Artillery. Once used it will show a complex fire animation on the artillery and a countdown timer at the target location with a audio warning leaving all players 5 seconds to get their vessels out of there. then the projectile exits its micro wormhole, hits the target location and causes a massive explosion.

after v3 or v4 i think we will write some tutorials on how to create new triggers for FO, but cause writing a good tutorial is quite much work - not to mention all the questions which will came along with it - we don't have time for it at the moment. our top priority is to complete v3 asap ;)

Sounds really cool. Will it be in V3 with the Dominion or will this only come later in V4?

Could do some really great things with this

Man, after V3 comes out your really going to have other modders scratching their heads trying to make sense of how you did it. :D

I wonder if it's ever occured to company owners to stick people around the internet looking for a certian kind of talent (like the FO team)....and a certian type of crazy. :P But really...they could find their best designers in modding sites such as this.

I dont know if it does but i have heard of people who use modding work for games as part of a sort of portfolio of work when applying for work with computer companies. Anyhow back on topic :P

The trigger system actually sound awsome, anybody else think of cool things to be done with it. would be cool to have a list of what people would like to see, especially as the FO team listen to us lot..........maybe

anyhow i like the artillery idea. maybe a reinforcements idea, so this would take ages to sort of charge up and when it has done you can sort of summon a small fleet of ships. maybe have three levels of this so you can summon a small fleet of medium ships then a small fleet of medium and the odd large ship then finnaly a medium sized fleet (say i dunno 10-15 ships?) of well rounded ships that could easily stand against an enemy fleet. It should also be timed aswell. so you summon reinforcements and 30 seconds later they arive.

That is acually a GREAT idea for the Borg, they can transwarp a fleet to the front lines :D
