The Devs have other plans and have already stated they do not like the idea of other universes/alternate realities being included in any gameplay affected ways.

Don't Iconians rely on shifting between alternate realities and universes? *Getting some crazy ideas...*

I thought they are a Prime Universe race that move across the barriers, rather than an actual Mirror version of our Iconians.

Indeed that's the impression I got - extremely manipulative of other timelines. They just pick a timeline, dominate it, and try to send ships back to the original prime timeline to dominate it as well
