I think the borg assimilator of technology should return to the game. part of the substance of the Borg is assimilate and than it is get new technology and adapt to it. and to avoid overloading the ships would give only a single special ability each and this would be randomly
please comment, that seems the idea
lower u'r shields and prepare to be assimilated
please comment, that seems the idea

Might be neat as an additional module for the borg - Technology Assimilation - allows borg vessels to assimilate 1 special weapon from targeted vessel.
As long as it didnt steal replace weapon specials and impractical ones, it could work quite well. 1 special limitation per vessel. Only vessles equipped with the Technology assimilation module would be able to steal a weapon, sounds good to me... Not that my opinion matters.... lol

Short question. Do you really want to get hit with Sensor Blackout from a Cube?

I kind like the idea, gives borg all the more reason to assimilate more people.

I dont know what to do with a borg, that already got dev-attack and heavy cutting beam, if it gets a special weapon that deals damage. Only special weapons that have a certain effect would make sense - like deactivating enemy weapon systems, deactivate enemy propulsion... but for that, we may have nanites.
But to be fair, I dont really like nanites.

Or a cube with the Leahval's Auto-Repair?

I think, the auto-repair would be something like the collective link in ships.
I wonder up to today, why a ship that is disabled, cant fire, cant move, cant do anything and is borg in regen-status wont regenerate much faster than in active combat. You dont have the ability to repair your ships, so it would be good, if you could put your ships to sleep for 30 seconds, where they would regenerate much faster (3x or 4x) and refresh their special energy faster (2x or so).
I never used the sleep mode for borg ships. I think, it would be a nice feature for the borg to do that. This way, you could retreat, wait 30 seconds (what is similar to send you ships back and forward again) and strike again.
It might also be good for not-regen ships that are in fleet battle on a lost position. They may go into regen mode to withstand some more punishment, so that your other ships have more time to destroy the enemy. You still need firepower for that, so it wont help you, if you only have 3 ships.
I think, it would be balanced.
Special weapon adaption is already present with the holding beam, regeneration enables you heavy punishment and the beam/torp adaption will help you to engage even in fewer numbers.
I think the borg should rather go on adaption that on taking other abilities. IF they would steal the tech, then the first thing I would do is to let borg vessels cloak. All other abilities (heavy attack, fast regen, subsystem-stability) are already present.

to make this balanced you would have to make borg ships much much weaker.
if refresh cycle got regen power with current borg hull strength it would be op in the extreme. every ship could get away and regen.
stealing enemy weapons seems silly to me.

Assimilate special weapons?
CUBEZ WID CLOAKINGS?!?!?!?!!!!11

Nah. I really liked the Tech Assim ability. I'll give it some thought and see what might be plausible.

what's plausible though. we know that borg steal tech. but if they found weapons which were more efficient than their own, they would replace all their weapons with it.
why would they steal a small piece of tech, and not make it standard?
and which specials could they stealy without becoming totally op?
a cube would have the energy to fire off other ships specials repeatedly.

Ah, but what if the specials it assimed had insane energy costs?

then there would be little point to using them imo

I'm sure the Cube could handle pretty much anything another faction could design without impairing itself too much.

Ok all I have had a good idea. How about
When you fit one or more Holding/Auto-Assim beam, it grants the following passive:
Assimilated Strength
-This unit has assimilated many people from all different cultures and civilizations. Bringing them into the Collective has let them share their secrets, and are passed around the drones connected to the ship's vinculum. This allows the drones from this vessel that board and assimilate enemy ships, to use that ship's special weapon/s, if they have already been researched and fitted in that ship.
So instead of bringing the specials to the Borg, you take the Borg to the specials
Opinions?
EDIT: Fixed a typo.

Sounds good to me, since the weapons are already on the ship.
