another thing i feel i should point out, if you haven't already realised is that if the cube is allowed to build it will just become a mobile shipyard, as the ship it builds will just exit through it and continue as a seperate unit, it wont stay inside and wait for the cube to be destroyed and then take its place.

my worry is that people playing as the borg will just build a couple of cubes, camp outside someones base and just eat away at it using the smaller ships being built from the cubes :( not fun at all

Well that is one stratagy but the cube itself would be far more powerful and ideal for attacking bases.

my point is it would be no fun at all if it were to be made into a mobile shipyard, because that is all people would use it for.

Then in that case maybe have it very slow-moving but otherwise the statistics of a station - meaning artillery ships can deal x2 damage to it. And, of course, it won't have the same attacking power as a starbase, but be mobile and cost the same and have the same build time to reduce the number of cubes in gameplay at once.

it has to have the attacking power of a "borg cube", or else its pointless making it so accurate in other fields that it can build other ships

Hmm...good point. If anything then we can assume the sphere as shown in First Contact was simply being held inside, not being constructed inside. Then we'll just say that the Cube's the all-mighty assimilate-everything-in-sight weapon.

Naturally, the only thing to say should be stronger than a cube, perhaps, would be an 8472 battleship (or perhaps an 8492 battleship with a special ability which demolishes cubes in 3 shots) as shown in Voyager. I was thinking, actually, that they would be one of the hirable ships from the neutral stations the new version is supposed to be about.

well make it so that it is more powerful that large numbers of smaller ships. Indeed I know that a lot of people use the 8472 mother ship as an attacking vessal despite its low speed. The borg cube would be slow but it would have the transwarp ability to make it into a very good attacking vessel.

Look, if a cube is parked in front of your base and building ships, just go out and engage it with your OWN ships. If the borg player can get a couple ofcubes, you should be able to have a good size fleet :P
So this is not a problem imo :)

trully i agree with baron, the cube should be as powerfull as a fleet, but it would take so much research, resources and time that it would take as long for it to build as a group of for ex. excelsior II class starships.

Or at least a fleet of vessels which equals or goes beyond the Cube's attacking power anyway.

That brings up another point - Tactical Cubes. Leave 'em or throw 'em in? If we add them, they'll have to be more powerful than a cube, and of course, we all know that the cube's already going to slaughter everything (assuming this is implemented) so...

I like the idea of tac cubes that are already in, in that they are more of a battleship and station destroyers with their double torps. And arent very good against small ships.

This could also be true for their "improved" versions, cube is more an all-round vessle, so its very good against anything really, but tac cube only against big stuff. Tac cube should also maybe be a tag stronger and win 1on1 with the cube :)

sorry but i am truelly against the cube being able to build ships, for the simple reason that it will kill gameplay as everyone (including the ai) will just use it as a moving shipyard. i think that the cubes ability to build other units should only be implemented if it is only going to help that cube in some way.

for e.g:
the cube could feature the galaxy seperation thingy, and when activated a sphere pops out and the cube then blows up (you should only really use it if destruction of your cube s imminent". that is the only way i can see the "life boat" scene (from first contact) being faithfully recreated in game.

All I care is that the cube is a gigantic assimilate-everything-in-sight thing that slaughters the average-sized fleet mostly single-handedly. To compensate, it'd take a lot of build time and resources to complete.

yep cubes should be super ships as thats how they are depicted in the trek universe, BUT if you do make them super, as said you'll only be able to build a couple tops, where as in trek its: *the lone survivor in a shakey voice* "there were hundreds of cubes, no escape!" :omg:

that dam thing called balance strikes again :hmmm:

hundreds?

it goes more like omg there were 3 cubes! there was no escape!!!

just like in Star Trek Voyager : Scorpion,

Kim : "Captain, I'm detecting a borg cube....no make that 2 (all shake in fear) no 3....5...captain I'm reading 15 Borg cubes"

Watching the episode for the first time I was like...well they don't even need to raise shield, just self destruct and die.....

and when species 8472 killed them ships and I saw the debry I was like...holy **** who could do that to the borg!?
