Having creating my account some time ago in order to be able to download maps, I can't believe that this is my very first post! First of all, FleetOps is by far my favourite mod for ANY game, because the creativity, hard work and dedication of you developers just shows everywhere in FO. And of course, I enjoy playing the hell out of it!
Anyway, here are some suggestions for the Teutoburg class, all names of battles (and sieges) fought by German-speaking military forces of any time period, except for the 20th century):
USS Teutoburg NX-80000
USS Lechfeld NCC-80001 (battle at which Otto I the Great defeated the Magyars in 955)
USS Augsburg NCC-80002 (another name for the battle of Lechfeld)
USS Grunwald NCC-80003 (the final battle of the Teutonic Order, also known as battle of Tannenberg, 1410)
USS Zabern NCC-80004
USS Freiburg NCC-80005 (battles from the Bauernkrieg, or German Peasants' War 1524-26)
USS Breitenfeld NCC-80006
USS Magdeburg NCC-80007
USS Lützen NCC-80008 (3 battles from the Thirty Years' War 1616-48)
USS Wien NCC-80009 (Wien/Vienna had been besieged twice by the Ottomans, in 1529 and in 1683)
USS Hohenfriedberg NCC-80010 (from the 2nd Silesian War 1744-45)
USS Mainz NCC-80011 (besieged during the French Revolutionary Wars 1792-1802)
USS Jena NCC-80012
USS Leipzig NCC-80013 (from the Napoleonic Wars 1803-1815)
USS Königgrätz NCC-80014 (decisive battle of the Austro-Prussian War, 1866)
USS Sedan NCC-80015 (decisive battle of the Franco-Prussian War, 1870-71)
...

Well, I think for giving the ship a character by its name, the title of places or cities wont fit. I'm german too, but I dont linke those names. Some german words that might fit this role a little bit better may be:
- Feuersturm (Phalanx-class)
- Höllenfeuer
- Drachenodem
...
- Engelmacher (Teutoburg-class)
- Schwertmeister (Avalon-class)
- Ritterlichkeit (Souvereign-class)
- Hellebarde
- Morgenstern
...
- Abendstern
- Kaleidoskop
- Sternenlicht
...
- Vortex
- Nexus
...
- Gauss
- Heisenberg
- Einstein
- Kopernikus
- Leibniz
- Faraday
- Hilbert
... and so on. No offense, but I wont go into a ship that itself is called "Mainz". Its frustrating having a frigate called "Mecklenburg-Vorpommern" around.

Hey, i know there are a lot of German players but not all registry names have to be in German.
There is such a thing as history outside Germany, England and the USA

I think he simply supposed names he likes. He can do that even if it proves that he doesn't understand Starfleet's registries and even if you hate german stuff.

At least two of these names are already used by Remore-class support-vessels.
And those pure german words like "Höllenfeuer" won't work on a federation ship... the naming-system is based on the U.S.-Navy's system.

@Sheva: I just wanted to make a few suggestions and compiled some names I'd associate with the name of the class, which, in my case, were battles of any kind fought by German-speaking armies.
Maybe the class could be named after battles where either one of the participating armies was completely surprised by the other (which would be in line with the Battle of Teutoburg Forest) or where artillery played a vital role (which would of course allude to the Teutoburg's main purpose)? What do you think?

That way better I think. It fits the character of the ship much better :-)

And how exactly does it work?
edit:
Maybe we could give the Teutoburg the name of arty-weapons, like "Lafette", "Katapult" or something like that?

I like the idea of the worldwide names but try to avoid longer names such as "USS Schwertmeister" for example, im not german, english or us but I still wouldn't want the name "USS Llandefaelog" either (Yes im welsh). "USS Cardiff" great, "USSLlanfairpwllgwyngyll-gogerychwyrndrobwll-llantysilio-gogogoch ummm maybe not. I don't fancy reading an essay evertime a ship roles out of the product line

Hmm... I thought the IKS Deathslayer is just about as long as the USS Schwertmeister... But okay, IF we take a name out of the frontiers, we should take short ones.
Well, if we are into it, there are a few names, I hat. The souvereign-class got lots of it. USS Herbert... whats that? I decommed that ship as it went out of the yard. Its like USS Jaqueline or... Justus Joseph Jarp
We could go over the Battletech-names for mechs. There are many to choose from
Behemoth, Mad Cat, Firefly, Daishi... all nice.

The Bethomoth, Sydney, Darwin, and Botany Bay already exist (among some other names here), although I'm not sure if their names are in Fleetops or not. I like alot of these though, nice work guys
Here's some more:
- Abdiel
- Acheron
- Achilles
- Argus
- Barbara
- Calypso
- Chikuma
- Entrea
- Gambia
- Highlander
- Hornet
- Mikuma
- Nubian
- Lone Ranger
- Venerable
As some of you may realize (in part thanks to the alphabetical order) I randomly pulled these names of a huge list of every vessel that served in WW2 from every nation. I was going to go through and take out all those I liked, but after about 5 minutes I realized this would be too much of a hassle
I think a few of these are already ST ship names, but as far as I know they aren't included in Fleetops

This is a goooooooood topic. More starships for my Fed Starship Database. It contains currently 22.000 entries (all from Internet sources!) but I don't want to stop until 25.000. So keep them coming!
ANd if it's possible, write the class of the ship too
