yeah thats what i thought but i wasnt sure if it could of meant the Attrexian station which was some kind of forge iirc or was it a mining facility?

yes, mixed that up when writing that todo. i meant the attrexian station from the 4th mission of elite force 2.
the only screenshot google revealed: http://eliteforce2.filefront.com/potd/5852

this means the forge stuff isnt on the list.
after reading this i was thinking, it would be good to have the forge station and its attack ships as map objects that worked fully to the game.

the one that transports voyager to the forge stations star ship grave yard
(vid skips to shot of ship in action)

the station that has a dampening field

the ship that comes to dismantle voyager (also in above pic)

even have some of the derelict ships in the background would be cool.

thoughts?

please no, the story of that game was ridiculous (star trek games have had some iffy stories, ds9 the fallen springs to mind).

gameplay wise it would be bad too. getting pulled there would damage ships, and the dampening field holds ships down even more. unless you happen to have some of that technobabblium that happened to be nearby.

ships would start heavily damaged and disabled. getting the technobabblium is a mission for an FPS not an RTS.

plus who would you fight? other players will want to destroy the forge too. so all are allies?

i'll be fair and take a second thought, maybe if the forge model has some more bits taken away so that it's less constructed and can't yet disable anything, and the map scenario is that the combatant races just happen to stumble across it unfinished.

its fleet of harvester ships aren't invincible, as now ships can shoot at them. the harvester ships could be npcs that attempt to latch on to your ship and kill crew. would mean all civilian ships need to be escorted around. problem is these npcs will be controlled by the AI, and would most likely just get shredded by your starbase when they didn't avoid it.

I wouldn't mind the pirate 'station', weird as it may be.

meh if we're entertaining the forge we might as well entertain that silly kitbash. seeing a connie hull stuck in there was kinda funny. then you get inside and feel like you've been punched in the brain due to the stupid level design.

well i was thinking it wouldnt involve "getting the technobabblium", i was thinking it would go like..

forge is like a star base, builds scouts and harvester ships and they scout in proximity to the forge, the scouts slowly expand on there exploration rather than random across the map.

when a ship destroys a scout it is sent to the forge and its systems are greatly decreased/disabled.
(ships that fly there are not as effected, as if the transportation wave did some of the crippling)

10 mins (or whatever) into the game the forge starts constructing harvesters

if you dont rescue your ships fast enough the harvesters recycle your ship (not to different from the ferengi)

after it collects enough ships it constructs a seed to build another forge randomly on the map etc etc.

more of a map hazard really (tho could make good missions imo)

that's annoying. run into one of the scouts and you basically lose one ship guaranteed as the only option is to destroy it.

well its not lost strait away, and i would consider it a new challenge myself but i see how you think it would be annoying.

it wouldnt be lost til 10 mins in, plenty of time to get a construction ship(they would be imune) to tow it out of the effect zone or destroy the forge

having a con ship fly around takes ages. and the ship will be out of the game until you can recover it. that's a random ship loss. so yes it's a challenge, but one i hate because it's random. like rolling dice.

also 1 ship means more to borg. image you sphere rushed, then the scout walks up to your sphere and takes it out the game :P

borg would have to be immune, hence giving them an advantage on the map.

i know it would need some Balancing, i was going on the entertainment value really. fun rather then competitive. just to make the maps more populated and "alive"

problem is it's a game, the entertainment is derived from the competition (friendly or otherwise).

people easily get annoyed when the competition is worthless due to luck, that's why mario kart is 10% awesome times and 90% screaming at the winner because they were the luckiest bastard in the world to get 3 red shells in the last lap.

your suggestion would make the map a gimmick map at best, like that map that was designed to look like a biological cell.

if you could set a defensive zone for the forge for its ships to patrol then it becomes similar to a nebula hazard that can be avoided.

but a risky shortcut or a way of setting a trap for an enemy ship or fleet.

Personally i hope the gunship from Star Trek Elite Force I makes it ingame.

The cockroach ship it disables.. meh, but the gunship is just sweet! Hopefully it'll be a capture-able NPC.

the gunship was certainly awesome in action. maybe the model could be changed a little, it wasn't that awesome.

but a giant cannon in game would be a laugh. kinda like hsa, but way stronger.

map object sounds about right, would make the map balancing difficult, but it's optional fun.

the gunship always reminded me of halo technology.

The whole idea of a big ass, heavily armored, slow as dirt, mono directional firring arc yet packing a massive punch.. what's not to like :P

the poorly designed missions set inside it. tbh those missions were boring. repeatedly corridor crawling and blowing up robots.
