So one feature i miss from the unmodded armada 2, is the self destruct feature on some ships.  So would it be possible to enable all the ships and stations in armada to self destruct, cus say you have a tavara class and its all maxed out and a borg ship is assimilating it and is about to take it over, you dont want the borg to get it so you self destruct you ship, hurting the borg ship, or ram it into it.  Now this dosent just apply to ships that are against the borg, cus i would certainly like to ram another ship if mine is almost dead.  Now i know that that dominian ship has the ram, and making other have ram would kinda make that ability not so special, but iit would make the game more realistcic.

I doubt FO will ever have Self-Destruct on all units, most likely just a few (like the Tractor Beam), despite the fact that it isn't very useful that way.

I don't know, I always wanted an armada where at least every fed ship had the abilities they had in the shows. Like tractor beams (except on the Ent-B, until it gets installed on Tuesday), self-destruct (that takes into account the size of the ship for damage), saucer sep on a few more ships, maybe use of shuttles/runabouts as fighters (and maybe anti-matter spread on galaxies and nebulas).

And all ships should have the option to ram, but if their shields are still up you would just bounce off. If shields were down, both ships should take variable hull and system damage.

Did that Hideki bounce of DS9? Shields up just causes less damage to the enemy.

Self-Destruct is mostly an Anti-capture weapon, so the team are most likely to only put it on a few big ships with such a high crew it won't be needed rather than smaller ships that can use it.

Put it on Construction ships and you can prevent an enemy getting your tech.

Yeah good points there, and just give it a heck of a big count-down, say 5-10 seconds before it blows up to give the enemies a chance to take it out first.

On a related side-note, I really really really want to see some damage caused to my ships when that cube in the middle of them goes boom, especially when it looks so nice and green. I mean in first contact that cube took at least an almost undamaged norway with it and I think a steamrunner too?! So they for capital ships, or at least borg ones, you don't need a self-destruct because they have good enough death explosions.

but that isnt the only point its also to prevent capture

Bringing back self destruct is a good idea.

i think it would add more depth to the game, prevent capture, and maybye inflict more damage, when one of your ships is being destryed to ram it into an enemy ship

yes.. maybe to add to that, you can add a command button to every ship in which includes the real ability of the ship like: self destract (engine oveload), shuttle lanch, sensor scan, probes, power allocate etc..

a smal ship wont have all this maybe a few, but a big one will have..

that would be cool, but i defiantly think that all ships should be able to ram

I agree that more ships need tractor beams and self destruct; esspecially on federation vessels.

Cut down on ship strength and increase ship cost, and give them the special weapons they deserve.

Also there should be weapons like feedback pulses, with which to counter enemy tractor beams.

Self destruct owns, and should be implemented on almost every ship.
To counter it, there should be a chance of self destruct being disabled, every time an away team boards (marines can shut down self destruct systems once they are on board). And of course: when weapons are down, there is no selfdestruct capability.

Also, maybe ships should have an extra system: Main power.
Then there should be special weapons which drain power, or dampening fields which deplete power completely. Then systems fail, shields go down, and the ship can be boarded :)

Wth the weapons bit, do you really need a counter?

That was discussed and it stays on the Dominion bug, for special reasons.

Self destruct originally in the game was (A2) was supposed to do area of effect damage but only minor amounts, If you were ever to bring Self destruct back do so with a Large area of effect damage something like a Warp core overload
