Why should Mayson use fighters? His speciality are small destroyers and cruisers and his favourised ship is the Excelsior-II. And he has nice high-tech tricks (quantum turret, ACS-torp and Norway).

I could be totally wrong with this, but the fighter-thing is Risners territory.

Station based fighters. Well. How about keeping this on the platform?

Mayson: Torpedo turret

Risner: Stationary hangar

(Outposts are already well-armed if upgraded)

Ok, Raven.  I'd like you to forget the term "fighter" for the moment.  I'm not suggesting they become "fighters", but just use the fighter dynamic of automation and auto-deployment.  I'm not suggesting we make the Runabouts super pwnzorz or anything, just that this would be a great way to add te Danube into the game in a manner consistent with the Federation theme of observation and Exploration.

With an upgrade the Starbase can deploy Runabouts automatically that will sweep a wide area and alert you to anything sneaking about.  Maybe they can have some light armament, maybe not.  The purpose would be to explore and patrol.  The Roms have Intel Center, the Dominion have the Sensor station, the Klingons have cloaked scouts.  This would be an exciting and unique addition to the Fed theme, a great use of the Danube (without making it just another stupid scout you have to build), and an interesting ability.

I disagree completely with your assertion that "this idea defeats itself".  I think you are just shooting it down based on your own aggressive opinions of things more related to how you see Star Trek and not how Flops is played :)

That sounds interesting indeed actually - Runabouts in place of the "sensor increase research" for stations perhaps?

There ya go!

Now that's being productive!  Yeah instead of just having the sensor upgrades that some other races have maybe it could be an upgrad that equips starbases with scouting Runabouts.  Takes the weapons off them for all I care, let's just find a cool use for Zeich's sexy Danube model!

a more appropriate "scout".  I like it, in fact, I think I might use that idea >:D

Boggz, you have to board RedEyedRaven's brain to help him see your point of view.  Preferably with Rei'karansu Marines :D

I like that this could be part of the station's offensive upgrade (maybe instead of the phaser or something), or a side upgrade for it totally separate from what we have now.  You upgrade the station and it has a few runabouts zipping about in a circle perimeter.

It makes sense to me because a starbase is bound to have runabouts, so while not superpowerful, they could take the place of an existing upgrade to give some more flavor. ^-^

The second RedEyeRaven's brain loses a single crew member I'm gonna Matrix Teleport his ass! :D

That's what I was gettin at earlier, Mal - having the Danubes as either a weapon replacement upgrade or as a whole separate upgrade on their own.  Turns out some are not too keen on Runabouts fighting at all so I changed it to be just scouting purposes.  I think either would be a great use for them.

Pew pew!

Fighters are only used to boost the strength of a starship, there's no reason a Danube can't do the same, only not as tough since its weapons are mostly meant for defense..

Good luck, its defenses are serious business.

Aggressive opinions? Aggression is not my intention, in most cases I just don't get the necessary points to change what I think or meeting other opinions half the way. I'm sorry if it comes over like that, but I'm hard-bitten. Not aggressive.

Have fun with matrix-teleporting through my thick-head :D

I will not get on and on with this.
I will just wait and see what the devs are actually up to do with runabouts.

Self-insults? Is that a new form of defense I'm not familier with?

Umm... Yes, of course it is (what a brilliant idea Tyler just gave me).

Well actually I translated wrong, so I used "thick-head" instead of "pighead".

The thick-head one of the most powerful defenses in the world ill draw a diagram to help explain
descent - tavara - dreadbought - cube - fed starbase - thick head
Even the most powerful weapons of logic and reason can not penetrate its defenses. O and dont take this personally i was speaking about my self not anyone on the forum
