the precise mechanisms are not precisely decided yet, but we wont introduce another resource.

It won't be in the next patch, but its relatively high on todo at the moment, so you should expect it a good way before 4.0 :)

No latinum?

The Ferengi will be disappointed.

But not much if there's still PROFIT somewhere!

I look forward for trading as well, but I agree that adding another resource would be pointless.
More interesting would be to have the trading goods delivered by cargoships in stock as a sort of exchanging stuff. Or supplies given for i.e. some alien ships which will hopefully be purchasable in the near future of the mod.

i think there has to be latinum for trade stations. i think there has to be some kind of general commodity (ie latinum) to pay for goods. just exchanging one resource for another resource ie: exchanging supplies for dilithium just doesnt feel right... exchanging latinum for dilithium or supplies for latinum feels much beter and more towards the actual star trek universe i think.

anyways borg have collective connections as their 4th resource so maybe the other 3 races can have latinum as their 4th resource

Well, if regarding the fact that Fleet Operations is a war scenario, supply trading makes way more sense than using latinum at all. What do you need money for when you really need ammo and food?  :whistling:

i understand that, but the point im trying to make is that it is unrealistic to think that in the st universe that  if some dude wants to sell u ammo, its unlikely that he will want romulan ale in exchange. its like u in real life getting paid 1000 litres in milk and then going to your local hardware store and wanting to exchange ur milk for nails, it doesnt work, what the hell the hardware store going to do with ur milk? exchange ur milk for coke cola? everyone uses one general commodity ie dollar that represents the value of a certain amount of goods...

just like latinum should be used trading

exchanging supplies is actually more realistic then latinum, as latinum is not a universal currency throughout the galaxy. the Ferengis and several species have a hang for it, but we never saw it anywhere else. The Klingons, the Federation and the Romulans will probably not use latinum if trading with each other. We saw in many episodes that trades are made with materials, like "damn it we need a technobabbel device! we will give you two containers of technobrubbel for it!" "deal or no deal?!"

Therefore supplies will probably act as a universal currency. if you want so, you can also count latinum to the supplies :) we don't want to get to much into the payment stuff, but getting deeper into building your sectors economy and connecting it to your empires systems.. more about that in future patches  :D
