for me it worked even with a sensor turret. romulan spy on sensor turret = view of all enemy movements.

Huh, I just tried it and I can't even select a station as a target with the romulan spy? (I'm using 3.0.5a)

PS: I recently realized, that rank 4 shrike vessels gain that ability again. It appears to be seldomly that they survive that long. I usually don't build spy ships to rank them up by sending them into battles, only then using them for initial purpose.

I think a spy ship should gain experience by spying, not by fighting.

Well, judging from the weapons and shields that vessle has its hardly just a spy-ship :)

You're right! It's a highly offensive ship. Now, from that point of view, the spy-ability is clearly put on the wrong ship. That's even worse than just gaining skills in spying through blasting away enemies woth a rapid fire disruptor.

Since this is a feature request forum I shall clearly say, that there has to be done something about the shrike to discern it's role and to provide further realism to FOPs.

There's no reason it can't be a multi-purpose ship. Star Trek ships are rarely single-use.

agreed

Yep it could be, but it cant be very good at everything :) Either keep it good at fighting or make it better at spying and decrease its fighting capabilities.

@ Tyler

Yes.there could' be multi purpose ships, but they have to be carefully balanced.

And there's still the unrealistic feature of advancing your spy ability through fighting. Are you gaining skills in making cakes through washing your car?

If you want balance, then why does the Tavara have cloak? Having the big, powerful Tavara able to sneak around undetected is more unbalanced than the Shrike having good weapons. Even if the thing is Romulan.

Well right now you cant spam tavaras but u most certainly can spam Shrikes :)
And the Tavara was unbalanced when 5 of them were available, so they were limited to 2 now :)

@Tyler

I want realism first, then balancing. A cloaked taara doesn't bring balancing to fall, but is realistic (iff cloaking is realistic at all, but wee need it necessarily for gameplay). It's not realistic, tht a tennis-player gains experience in tennis through playing chess, though he miht be able to do both.
