Just give them what they had when they turned Voyager into a crispy critter with their torpedoes.  Without that super ship.  Because technically speaking, that ship never existed.

chroniton torps? u want them to have those?

no thank you. way op. torps that ignore shields. only for vets.

Considering Voyager showed they can be countered (just like Dominion weapons), they can easily be balanced with a simple handwave.

well voyager's temporal shields were made during an alternate timeline that was erased when they hit the giant reset button at the end of year of hell part 2.

so nobody has temporal shields anymore. it took seven and tuvok with their combined borg and vulcan minds several months of getting voyager's arse kicked before they even had the idea of temporal shields. if voyager didnt have 3 metre thick plot armour then they would have been killed before they could make the temporal shields.

i would only give shield breaking torps to certain krenim vets, maybe 3 or 4 vets could get 100% chance to break shields, and other vets could get lower chance to break shields.

kinda like breen weapons in fleetops.

Voyager had them modify shields and the deflector (surprise, surprise...) to protect against them with the temporal shields being the direct result of that modification. I wouldn't argue about it being a veteran trait, I'm just saying that it would only take a small handwave to explain the reduced effectiveness (like examining a captured ship).

Apparently, the temporal weapon ship used the same temporal varience for its Death Star cannon as the common warship's torps...

temporal shields are easy to implement, i agree, but we saw in voyager that it took two very smart people a long time to even think of the idea. once they thought of it the job was done and the shields were simple to implement, but they have to think of the idea first. this timeline where they developed the shields was deleted.

i would think that it would be like the breen dissipator weapon, deadly at first but weaker later. so in fleetops it would be less effective, like the breen thing. but definitely not as powerful as it originally was.

If it is less effective now, that means someone else in this timeline also had an idea on how to protect against it. Deleting one timeline won't block others from thinking along similar lines, they'd just reach the conclusion along a different path. Especially timelines with ships like Enterprise and Defiant around.

I'm not sure why we're arguing, since I agree with the idea of it being a reduced-effectiveness weapon similar to the Breen dissipator.

Starfleet would have to develop defences like that eventually anyway, due to the timeships of the 29th century. They woudn't be able to do their job if they were changed along with the rest of the timeline.

of course someone else will have the idea, but it will take time.

my point was that chroniton torps are op the way voyager showed them.

u said they can be countered easily, but this takes time, meaning a lot of defeats would be needed first. like with breen dissipator. it was pure luck that dumb-ar started a rebellion and distracted the dominion.

I said they can be balanced easily, not countered. Seems to have been a misunderstanding.

but before that u said:

thats where the misunderstanding comes from. voyager had great difficulty adapting to these weapons, so hopefully by the time of fleetops the adaption has been done, just like with energy dissipators.

The Tereanans use a chroniton field to greatly reduce the effectiveness of a chroniton torpedo.  Of course, having the weapons themselves kind of makes it necessary for them to have a defence against it.

Wouldn't it make more sense to increase their own defense against the weapon rather than hinder the weapon itself?

That part was only meant to say that it is proven to be possible. I should really be a little more specific about how I word things.

I think I misspoke.  The chroniton field reduces the damage received by chroniton weapons.

Ah, as a shield? Seems I misunderstood this time.

Yes, as a shield.
