NPC ships being boarded to control it.

Boarding NPC ships will increase the game strategy.

But, there is a problem. If your ship turn a derelict, a Ferengi Marauder will appear and will try to capture your ship. So you board this Ferengi Marauder and other Marauder will try to capture your ship and you board this ship too. At the end you will have a lot of Ferengi Marauder and the strategy will change to "Marauder Rush", it will unbalance the game drastically.

The idea is to create a ship cap for NPC ships, a limit of 10 ships. Or create a Ferengi ship cap with limit of 10 Ferengi D'Kora Class Marauder.

I believe caps only impact if one is building or warping in units. Beaming onboard one can do, as my son made a map with all these derlect warpins to play against the AI and beamed crew onboard to use them, despite the cap.

So a cap wouldn't help in this regard.

If I remember correctly ( been a few years  on the  Older FO maps)  the  only  weaponds the  Da'Kora had were  a Tractor/ Repulsor  beam and a Special where  it would kill the engines for a few seconds. The tractor  beam only worked when engines were off line. It was a real pain when they sat there and kept killing you engines, while your True opponent  was  raking you over the coals.  Very hard to run away when you engines  kept getting shut down. All though  on  A2 mod I remember there was  Another Frengi special was  the ablility to strip  metal and Dia  directly off your ship.

The V3 FO D'Kora has twin Pulse Phasers and the torpedo special weapon, the D'Kora from 2.0 Beta had twin Phaser arrays and no special. They're armed, you just don't see the weapons for obvious reasons unless you select the ship.

My mind start spinning around some kind of raiding feature with a specialweapon that is able to steal a little bit of the tri- or dil-loot from a freigther. Maybe interesting for some modder for a ferengi playable-fraction as a side-part of there economy. There own resource freighters may not have that big cargo to hold alot of resources so there starcraft have to raid on enemy freigthers and loot 'em with a speacialweapon. As long your ship have specialenergy it can took every 5 sec 20 resources of the targeted freigther. And the unload may happen while repair in a mixed building of a minig-station and a shipyard. .o0(Hmmm, that would be a nice new feature for a coming fleetops release!)

The Fleet operations can be like X3-Terran Conflict where ATF ships aren't buydable, but playable because you can board the ships.
But, board a ship in X3-Terran Conflict isn't easy, make it a big gift for your effort when you board one.

We can do the same in Fleet operations. Imagine boarding a great Galor, Keldon, Krenim Timeship or a Reman Scimitar. But not so easily to balance in multiplayers games.
