I downloaded 2.0 for an old time's sake just to play as the Noxter and an idea hit me. Based off the Klingon fleet yard in V3, I know it's possible for a single base to add on multiple parts. What if a Noxter base was a single organism that continued to grow larger via expansion add-ons like the Klingon Fleet Yard? It would certainly make them feel even more unique and could avoid the silly species 8472 larva evolving into random structures.

that would b like a modul base could work

Is there any specific reason why we even have the noxter. I personally prefer to see 8472 before seeing any queer bugs.

I think it's because the Noxter are part of the FleetOps storyline that the team RP'd, whereas 8472 aren't

I understand that. but i dont see the fascination with the side. compared to canon species, the noxter are mere bugs - like the ones from earth 2160
Dont see what merits the enthusiasm.

I love the Noxter simply because I'm sick of space being so barren in most sci-fi shows and games. I love primitive space-born life. Species 8472 doesn't really count because they are super evolved and intelligent. When I see the Noxter i picture them like ants, animals reacting on instinct. They don't plot wars or galactic conquest or all that stuff, they simply attack because it's their nature to defend their nests and expand. That's my reason I support them.

Well... most of them returned, according to Fleet Ops there's quite a buildup that was left in Breen space...

But anywho, I'm really hoping the Noxter's base ends up like that... or maybe the Iconians have a single base structure that just expands to massive proportions.

of course. meaning 8472 could as well, if the FO devs wanted them to. :)
which is why i was curious about why we chose an insectoid non-canon race over 8472 which is canon. kinda from the perspective of having the complete STU playable (entire = main popular races from canon like Cardies and 8472) before going for newbies.
Not criticizing, just wondering - cos i downloaded the older versions and tried the Noxter to see what the rave was about - and didnt get the point.

I was actually thinking of something similar for the borg, then you could truly have a unimatrix.

I think that 8472 will be just overpowered... I mean... having them ingame and balancing them would be far away from any canon 8472...

Some 8472 were left behind, no idea how many though. I agree with Pastamama, 8472 only use Godships. Then again, Borg Tactical Cubes don't need a full fleet to combat like the show.

the borg nanite mix which voyager created could be added as a balancer against them.
In fact when researched - kinda like the way tachyon balances the cloak - a side with that researched gets a % increase damage dealt to 8472 which would be akin to "balancing" - meaning we consider what it would be like to balance 8472, and need the side to research the voyager nanite adaptation to get that balance activated.
before it is researched 8472 will have the canon power advantage.
Also we can have the research available early in game, but can take a few resources (not as cheap as tachyon). to balance at that level/stage, stations and turrets can stand up against the smaller 8472 frigates that are developed at that stage of the game's tech... like right now where the Borg cube can certainly overpower a station, but a borg probe cannot.
that way the balancing is still "canonical" per se.

The only thing is no larva evolving crap. we'll need to revamp the tech tree for them. no mother and no larvae. would prefer to have their tech and resources based more along the lines of an import from fluidic space - meaning an expansion and application of a modified warp in (we can use the base code that we currently have for the feds) for research and ships and resources. We can certainly have a base station like the one Voyager encountered from where the building and expansion can commence.

Would be interesting to see what we can come up with if this idea were to kick off and the devs began conceptualizing how 8472 are to be implemented from that standpoint.
We the gamers would certainly have a lot of input :)

any ideas on whether this would or would not be more interesting to have before the non-canonical races?
