Our old friends are coming back eventually. The Devs, no doubt, are well at work defining the fundamental concepts of what it means to be Noxter.
However! There is no reason that the FO community can't do our own brainstorming! With a bit of luck and persistence, we can develop a (hypothetical) faction write-up that complements the five existing factions while adding interesting new dimensions to game-play.
Some of you may be wondering, just who are these 'Noxter?
They're these guys:

Regardless, keep that attitude! Right now, the Noxter are who we decide they are.
This brings me to the first question: what general profile should the Noxter follow? You can vote twice, and change your vote as you see fit. If you have an idea that's more specific or simply not covered by the above options, post it in the thread. If you do that, I'll edit the poll to include your idea. (I guess I haven't ran a poll since we moved to the new forums in '07; it seems you can't edit poll questions.)
Remember, this is just a general brainstorming thread! It doesn't matter how ridiculous your idea is, it's worth considering.

I will post additional ideas at the bottom of this post.

If I were you I would make the Noxter the ultimate enemy! Even their weakest ships should be cube poppers and there should be events where like 4 or more player compete all together where the objective would be killing a small group of noxter ships in the middle of the map!
They should definetely make the borg look like pussycats!

Well they remind me of Shivans from FS, but they are also fanon (fan canon), so I wouldn't implement them as a balanced race, meant for everyday play but for - like Beef said - a 3v1 engagement. I would give their ships a similar bonus and way of fighting the Shivans used in FS2 and 1 - Shivans seemed, like Romulans, the strongest at the beginning of the fight. When their ships ambushed it usually ended in heavy GTVA losses, but i wouldn't give them cloak, I would rather give them an in system warp or maybe not even that, because, if we go beck to FS, Shivans had fast ships (although not very maneuverable - you could outrun a missile, but out turn it), their ships would also take a huge pounding and their systems were hard to destroy, but in weapons wide, GTVA had an advantage, not only because Shivans had a strong tendency to mount 90% of their weapons forward which meant outmaneuvered shivan is a dead shivan, even on capital ships, but their "drilling" lasers really weren't as strong as GTVA "swiping" ones. Lastly Shivans, when forced into prolonged fight, relied on massive ship numbers to overwhelm the enemy.
Now lastly: Why did do they remind me of Shivans: FS wiki
Noxter:
A 3v1 race
+Strong ambush
+Fast ships
+Hard to destroy (strong hull, shields and systems)
-unmaneuverable
-Non-canon

You know Noxter are going to be the next playable race right? In which case giving them all powerful ships probably wouldn't be the best idea
Of course you could be joking, and the joke would be on me, and I will look stupid :sweatdrop:
But yeah, Noxter need to be balanced just like everyone else, but I hope their tech progression is massively different from the other races, as they have organic ships and I think will have a "melee" attack on enemy ships, which will make gameplay interesting. Ship speed would be even more important in that case, you could have big hulking station killers and tiny fast anti-interceptors that presumably would be the fastest ships in the game.
That's my brainstorming for now

I wasn't joking. I do not think that, a non-canon race would be a good addition tho this mod. If it were me, I would cancel them all together. But if you REALLY must put them into mod, I would like to see them as little as possible. They would be a nice 1v3 race, where fighting them would be like fighting the Shivans, and where they would only be played occasionally. I might live with that, but as a permanent equally playable race, I thing they would ruin this mod.

I only voted for "Strong offense, with a focus on numbers", it was the only one that felt right to me.

I voted Offence or Defence with a focus on numbers.
What was their focus back when they were in before? I never paid much attention to them back then...

there's a danger that if they focus too much on numbers that it could step on the dominion's focus on numbers.
so i went for system/offence and system/illusions/etc, as biological lifeforms could be technobabbled into being hard to disable. i like the idea of illusions and interesting tactics.

I really see them more along the lines of "Strong offense, with a focus on individual power'" or "Strong 'systems', with a focus on offensive abilities."
Honestly, the 'bug swarm' got done to death before Starcraft reared its ugly face and I'm sick and tired of Zerglings so I'd rather see organic spaceships that can hold their own against greater numbers for a change.
Just because bugs (no, not those bugs) are smaller than us doesn't mean they're shitty at their own scale.
Perhaps some sort of ability which could let the things use hostile ships as incubators for their own units while we're at it?

I think infecting alien ships is a planned feature, even their official backstory mentions that practice.

Probably going against the flow here, but the Noxter don't really appeal to me. Space faring organism, breeding and infecting.. sounds too much like 8472 and i always found their gameplay annoying.
The crazy subspace scientists and iconians sound interesting, but the noxter not so much.
The problem is that there's a lack of credible opponent in the known star trek universe and even if there was some forgotten race in the alpha, beta or delta quadrant (Gamma being dominated by the Dominion) then how to make that race unique.
Edit: browsing through memory alpha some races look technologically advanced to be a credible opponent: Krenim, Vidians, hirogen. They're far in the delta quadrant though and not shown to possess transwarp or slipstream technology.

Sorry totally wasn't referring to you! I was referring to the poster above you.

Hierarchy species - Memory Alpha, the Star Trek Wiki is a species which could be very interesting if they had been closer to the federation
